Floyd, a notable porcelain artist in Alexandria, learned to paint on porcelain in the early 1970’s and taught her craft in workshops for the Fairfax County Adult Education program.

She was a Pennsylvania native who attended a business college before moving to Washington in 1941 to work as a secretary in the Pentagon...

Oil on canvas, 36" by 40" and a narrow black wood frame, circa 1970's, signed at lower right "JMac". There is a website for this artist's work, set up by the artist. I believe the type of painting might well be called "hard edge", there being sharp delineations between strips of color. This is a large and decorative work that will enhance any modern or mid century interior. The painting needs a simple cleaning, as over the years it has acquired some superficial brownish drips and soiling...

Oil on canvas painting of a trellis and a patio, lots of flowers and impressionistically depicted leaves filling the composition, 24" by 36", unframed, signed at lower right "ED CORDEZ". No listed artist by this name comes up in any net searches I've made so I will consider this a fine work by a talented though unlisted artist. It was probably executed within the past twenty years. Condition is excellent. You'll easily find a standard size 24" by 36" frame to complement the work.

An American 19th century oil on canvas still life, circa 1870-1890, measuring 10" by 16" (12 1/2" by 18 1/2" as framed), unsigned, featuring a metal pot with green and red apples, a pitcher, and a glass, in the classic style of nineteenth century American still life art. This is a beautifully painted work by an obviously talented artist, although I have not to date found a listing on him. There's a label on the reverse of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, 37th Annual Exhibition with the title, and artist's address. The painting has a strong WPA feeling to it...

Oil on canvas of a clapboard cottage by a lake in spring, 18" by 24" with 3" frame, signed at lower left "J.C. FRANCES". I do not see a listing for the artist but he or she was obviously at the very least familiar with the paintings of Henry Pember Smith (1854-1907) and George W. Drew (1875-1968), who painted eerily similar scenes. This painting shows a gambrel roofed cottage with blooming pink blossomed trees and ducks----an idyllic spring idyll in New England or New York state perhaps...

Mathenia was born in Bakersfield, California and showed early artistic talent as a youngster...

LANDRY. Some internet research enabled me to identify the artist. Landry is a New Orleans native and graduate of Newcomb Art School at Tulane there, who after some time in the corporate world in New York elected to move to the Washington, D.C...
