PAIR of gouache paintings of Italy, one apparently showing the island of Ischia in moonlight, at the entrance to the Gulf of Naples, the other a coastal scene of the mainland, neither signed, circa 1900. The Ischia work measures 6 1/2" by 9 3/4", the other 7" by 10 3/4" (12" by 14 3/4" and 12 1/2" by 16" framed----the frames slightly different). Such paintings were popular souvenirs that went home with Grand Tour visitors at the turn of the century...

An original gouache on illustration board drawing of a native American dancer performing the "eagle dance" of the Southwest, measuring 8" by 6 1/2" (12 1/2" by 11" in wood frame), signed at lower right by artist H. Kunkle and dated '79. Definitely an original gouache drawing, not a serigraph or reproduction of any kind. See close-up images. I have not been able to locate information on an artist by this name. The work is loose in the frame, needs to be nailed in again...

This decorative, complex gouache drawing appears to be possibly a wallpaper design of the Art Deco period, or, it could just be a drawing in its own right. On the reverse is written the name "T.M. Abell". The eye-teasing geometric design seems to vibrate almost in the way that Op-Art of later decades vibrates and challenges the eye. Colors are greens, oranges and yellows, with white and black lightning-bolt type diagonal borders making for a most dramatic pattern...

Highly detailed gouache on silk painting, 7 1/2" by 16 1/4" (11 1/2" by 20 1/2" as framed), unsigned, featuring approximately 75 to 80 figures participating in some kind of ceremonial procession. The work, circa 1960's or 1970's, is framed with bamboo style frame. There is a water stain at lower left in the mat area, which is actually composed of a thin wood veneer...

A contemporary drawing in gouache in the classic Indian manner, depicting mounted royalty on elephants, other mounted apparently royal figures (maharaja?) on a camel and horse, in an exotic landscape including a palace in the distance. The work is in the style commonly seen for at least 500 years in India and Persia. The artist has taken great care with the amazing details. Measures 13 1/2" by 10 3/4" framed. Possibly acquired originally in India (see reverse partial sticker).

A gouache on paper painting of a traditional Russian church, 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" (16 3/8" by 13 1/4" in simple light simulated wood frame), not apparently signed but with a few penciled words in Russian on the reverse side. Nicely executed by a talented hand. Note the four pointed "Christmas star" at upper right. At lower left corner there is a diagonal crack in the paper, not a significant issue.

Small gouache on paper painting of famous Mount Vesuvius volcano towering over Italy's Bay of Naples as it emits puffs of smoke, 6" by 8 3/8" inside the mat, 11 1/4" by 13 1/4" in inexpensive modern framing, unsigned. This is quite possibly or even likely a work of the artist Giuseppe Corelli (1858-1925); compare to another, signed work by that name in my shop...

A detailed gouache painting of two female and one male figure in a green landscape with trees and flowers, 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" (13 1/2" by 11 1/2" in gold framing), painted in the centuries-old traditional style of the Indo-Persian School, but contemporary. The condition is excellent and this is a very decorative piece. The amount of work involved to create such a detailed image is stupendous---though the market undervalues the handiwork.

A late 20th century intricate painting of the Indo-Persian, Mughal School, sometimes referred to as Indian Persian, measuring 10" by 6" including margins (12" by 8" in the ornately patterned style of frame that often accompanies such works). The painting is in excellent condition, though old water intrusion at upper and lower left has left dampstains. A mat with curving, oval shape would hide this. Frame is delaminating at left edge and extreme top left corner shows some loss...

A floral still life painting on pebbled paper, 14 1/2" by 10 1/4" inside the mat, 19" by 15" as nicely framed (no glass). The work bears signature "Montezin" at lower left but I have researched the piece and it is not by the noted French artist. It is offered solely on its decorative qualities. There are light folds in the paper at top but they are not really a concern.

A view of Ely Cathedral in eastern England, signed at lower right by listed contemporary British artist KENNETH W. BURTON (1946-), the work painted skillfully in gouache and measuring 9" by 13" (18 1/2" by 22 3/4" in whitish wood frame). Condition of painting and frame excellent. Burton was born in Lincolnshire and has painted widely throughout the United Kingdom, seeking out a wide range of landscape subject matter. Gouache and pencil abstract drawing on paper, 7 1/4" by 11 1/4" (14" by 18" in metal frame of the period), signed on the reverse of the inner backing with what appears as "Richard Chinn(xxx)/gouache/pencil/fall '77". This is an elegant modern little work with attractive colors and composition. I at first thought it unsigned, and was ready to sell it as such, but decided to dig just a bit further, laboriously disassembling the framing, in search of any writing...

Watercolor and gouache on paper, 4 1/2" by 12 1/4", (10" by 17 3/4" in modern framing), apparently unsigned, but I believe likely by a member of the talented and prolific GIANNI Italian painter family. Interesting gouache abstract painting in subtle grays and blues, signed on the reverse side of the Crescent art board "Jeannine Isaacs". The piece, measuring 9 3/4" square inside the mat opening, comes in an aluminum frame without glass. I do not see a recognized, listed artist by this name. The art probably dates to the 1970's I would suggest. Condition is excellent.

An impressive original gouache painting of the iconic buttes and towers at the Monument Valley in the famous "Four Corners" region of the American Southwest, signed at lower right by the listed artist ARTHUR C. BEGAY (1932-2010). The work, 11 1/2" by 15 3/4" (17 1/2" by 22" nicely framed and matted) is a stunning example of Southwestern art. The artist has depicted the ageless ramparts as they stand under a high, wispy cloud at sunset...

By noted Scottish artist FRANK COLCLOUGH, a PAIR of gouache drawings of landscapes in Scotland, one of a country lane, 7 1/2" by 11 1/4" (15 1/2" by 19" framed), the other of a harbor, 12" by 7 3/4" (20" by 15 1/2" framed).
