Traditional watercolor still life of roses, yellow daffodils and maybe some dogwood, arranged in a white vase against a sketchily defined background, 20" by 22 1/2" (27" by 30 3/4" framed), apparently unsigned, though a number "1432" appears at lower right corner under the mat (I do NOT think it says 1932). The paper was laid on a board long ago. I think this dates to the 1940's or so; the hand was trained. Condition is excellent and this is ready for the wall.

Nicely painted watercolor painting of dramatic alpine landscape, the location identified on the reverse in old Germanic handwriting that is somewhat difficult to decipher, though we can make out "Schoberspitze" and "Hohe Warte", placing this in Austria. The Schoberspitze reaches 2602 meters (8535 ft.) elevation. Comparison with a photograph of the mountain range shows a startling accuracy with the watercolor...

A fine unframed watercolor on heavy quality watercolor paper, the subject the famed mission bells at the 18th century Mission San Juan Capistrano in Southern California, titled on reverse label "El Campanario", 20 1/2" by 30", signed at lower right corner "R Folk NWS". The artist is ROGER FOLK, a longtime and familiar artist of great talent, active in the Southern California art scene. Folk according to information developed from the net, appears to be in his seventies...

Watercolor of white flowers, 7 3/8" by 7 3/8" (14 1/4" by 14 1/4" in gold metal framing), signed at lower right by Northern California contemporary artist Joyce Herman. Her business card is affixed to the reverse side. The painting is nicely done and in excellent condition.

A watercolor painting of a tall pagoda, 20 1/2" by 11" (24 3/4" by 15" framed), signed at lower right by artist JI WON CHANG and dated 1968. This being a common Chinese name, it is difficult to tie this work to a particular artist, and there are no apparent auction records under this name. Nevertheless we see a competently created work, in a difficult to master medium; consider the complex fleshing-out of the tower's detail...

**One of a number of Venice works in my shop** Watercolor painting of a classic Venetian view including canal gondola and the famous church in the background, 4 1/2" by 7 1/2" (10" by 13 1/4" as framed without glass), signed at lower right corner "G. Romanello". This is a twentieth century work, perhaps from the 1950's, or, possibly, earlier. I do not see a listing for the name...

Circa late 19th century watercolor painting, probably American, 9 1/2" by 13" (16" by 19 1/4" framed), unsigned, featuring distant high snowy peaks behind a foreground lake. This was found in California and could be a scene of the American west. More than likely, it is by a listed artist---who neglected to sign his or her work. There is some edge browning from the mat, otherwise the work is in excellent condition considering its obvious age.

Watercolor on paper painting of a street scene in Bermuda, signed at lower left corner by American artist Jack Crowe, and dated there 1950. This is an impressionist view likely of Hamilton, the principal town. The work measures 10" by 13 3/4" (18" by 22" in what is essentially an inner frame, protective only---you should plan on reframing). Crowe does not appear to be a listed artist...

Watercolor on paper, 10 1/2" by 16 1/2" image size, (20 1/2" by 26 1/2" in attractive silvery modern-day framing), signed at lower left "P. Sandby 1793". The peaceful rural scene includes two cows, a haystack and at least three structures among the feathery trees. From images sent to major auction house specialists in London, the opinion has come back that this is very likely a work by someone of the period who copied Sandby's style...

Fine watercolor on paper drawing of a dirt road or track in a country landscape, signed at lower left by the listed American artist NEIL REID MITCHILL (sometimes misspelled as "Mitchell") 1858-1934. Mitchill was born in New York and was painting in nearby Connecticut by the 1890's, where he is credited with being the first resident artist of Westport (which went on to become a 20th century art colony of sorts)...

A watercolor painting of pine or cypress trees on the coast, perhaps a place like Carmel or Santa Barbara, measuring 14 3/4" by 18 3/4" (20" by 23 1/2" framed). The work is unsigned, (I have opened it up to peek inside, no writing anywhere) and judging from the framing it could date to the 1970's or 1960's. The artist used quality Arches paper (see blind stamp of same). The painting is clean and problem-free; over the years it has slipped inside its mat so will have to be probably re-affixed.

Attractive, vintage watercolor painting of colorful flowers in a sunny garden, measuring 9 1/2" by 14" (16" by 21" framed). This lovely work is apparently unsigned--I have opened the backing to peer inside and see neither signature nor any other information besides numbers in pencil. The painting does have some age. The artist clearly had an excellent command of the watercolor medium. The custom mat with hand drawn lines and silvery border adds to the appeal...

This is a beautiful impressionist still life of pink roses in a glass pitcher, signed at lower left in Cyrillic and dated 1994 by the noted Ukrainian artist VASILY PONIKAROV (1929-). Measuring 26" by 18 3/4" (33" by 26" as framed in pink metal frame and matching mat), it is a powerfully impressionistic work by a master of watercolor art. Ponikarov was born near Odessa and was exhibiting his art by 1965...

A striking modern watercolor and ink drawing signed at lower right in Hebrew by listed Israeli artist HANA LEVI (1914-2002). The work, 19" by 27" (27" by 34 1/2" framed) is elegant, with subdued color palette consisting of black, gray, conservative brown and light green. The artist is listed, and works are offered at auction, many closely resembling this one; though, there seems to be some confusion in the marketplace...

A charming antique watercolor in monochromatic gray tones, the sheet 8 1/4" by 13 1/2", mounted to a blue-gray card 11" by 16" with hand drawn mat lines. There is no signature. A guess as to the date of execution could be anywhere from late 18th century to about 1820. There is some watermark in the paper. The drawing exhibits some of the faults that a piece of paper 200 years old might acquire.....light brownish discoloration in spots, small torn area at bottom center, small edge tear at upp...

A finely painted work titled at lower right "Culebra Range, Colo.", signed at lower left by artist CARROLL COLBY CHILD (1868-1932). The Culebra Range is in extreme southern Colorado, very near the New Mexico border and not far from Taos. It is noted for Culebra Peak, the southernmost of the so-called "Fourteeners" (Rocky Mountain peaks of at least 14,000 feet summit elevation). A watercolor painting of a lonely lighthouse on coastal dune cliffs of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, signed at lower right by artist HARVEY JOHN DODD (1933-2011) and dated there 1987. This appears to be an unusually large example of the artist's work, at 21 1/2" by 15 1/4" (29" by 23 1/2" as framed in light wood with Plexiglas). Dodd is known for his coastal and marine works.
