The viewer is reminded of Canadian art--landscapes of Ontario in the fall, for example--though this might just be a generic scene from the imagination of the artist. A colorful original work with considerable decorative quality. The drawing is slipping around a bit under the mat so will have to be re-affixed to backing.

A large watercolor painting, apparently unsigned, 20 1/2" by 28 1/2" (52 cm. by 72 cm.) and 27 1/2" by 36" framed. The antique work has been laid on a thin card, earlier in the 20th century, so if there was information on the recto it is hidden. The fascinating scene contains at least 20 figures going about their business, two horses, numerous boats, and windmills in the distance, and carefully rendered architectural facades. A contemporary watercolor painting of a sailboat, signed at lower right by artist "Seargeant". Measurements are 12" by 10" inside the mat and 19 1/2" by 17 1/2" as nicely framed. Very clean overall, just a very little few specks of soiling on the inside of the non-glare glass, at upper corner. The artist had a good understanding of the wet-on-wet technique, as he used it to advantage in the gray, threatening sky and in the water.
