Gouache, ink and pencil on thin board snow scene, probably in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, measuring 4 3/4" by 5 3/4" (12" by 13" as framed) signed at lower right by noted California artist FRANK WILLIAM CUPRIEN (1871-1948). I removed this from the ornate frame with plaque found interesting information---this was executed perhaps quite spontaneously, on what looks like a piece of a mailing envelope, complete with circa 1940's stamps, the initials "FWC", apparent title, "timberline", and, typed...

A finely executed watercolor landscape of a forested high rocky cliff overlooking a distant valley, signed at lower left "F Green" and dated there 1873. The work measures 16" by 12 3/4" and 23 1/2" by 20" as nicely framed, with hand drawn mat lines. I am inclined to think the artist was American but suppose he/she could have been English. There are two most-likely possibilities as to artist identity---Frank Russell Green (1856-1940) and a little-known "Francis Green". If the former the work ...

A small watercolor and ink drawing of the famous old Brulatour courtyard, 520 Royal Street in the New Orleans Vieux Carre (French Quarter), signed at lower right and dated there '51 (and titled/signed/dated again on the reverse backing) by New Orleans artist E. ALVA EDWARDS. Internet research suggests but cannot confirm that this be a work by one EDWIN ALVA EDWARDS JR. (1914-1988) of the Baton Rouge area. The clean piece measures 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" as framed. There does not appear to be an arti...

A miniature or small gouache hillside landscape painting (3" by 4 1/4"), 7 3/4" by 9 3/4" in silvery stand-up frame, signed at lower left "R. Becker". The artist is Russ or Russell Becker, according to a Christmas 1995 hand-written holiday note on the inside of the blue card to which this is affixed. I do not see an obvious artist by this name, but he was clearly talented. The scene appears western, given the reddish rocky outcrop. Condition is excellent.
