A very interesting etching of what appears to be Paris' Montmartre section, (the windmill a famous feature, painted by many artists), signed in pencil in the lower right margin "B. Vilard". Surprisingly I do not see a listing for an artist by this name---could possibly be a pen name.. The work measures 8 1/2" by 11" inside the mat and 13 3/4" by 16 1/4" framed. It is very clean and fresh, despite likely dating to the first half of the 20th century. Note the subtle blue/brown colors.

Measurements are 6" by 8 3/4" inside the plate mark and the sheet measures 11 5/8" by 14 1/4", extending well beyond the mat...

Classic mid 19th century print of a large bird perched on a branch, 20 5/8" by 14 7/8" inside a hand drawn ornate mat, 27" by 20 3/4" framed, with hand coloring of the subject. This print reminds of the Audubon period of ornithological art---in style and overall presentation. There is no indication as to artist, engraver or printer. The print, like many old Audubon examples, has been in a humid environment, as it is heavily foxed, especially at top right, but, really overall...

A posthumously published (1993) etching "Men at Rigging", the plate apparently originally cut by famous and important California artist ARMIN HANSEN (1886-1957) circa 1924, even though the work is dated 1930 after the faint plate signature. According to the printed narrative on the backing, the plate was never printed in Hansen's lifetime...

A late 19th century etching of a young woman, measuring 5 3/4" by 4" inside the mat, the laid paper sheet 10" by 7 1/4", and 19 1/4" by 15 1/2" nicely framed, with a monogram in the plate at right center and an illegible pencil signature at lower right that appears to begin with "J". As the work somewhat resembles some portrait etchings by the famous artist Whistler, and the monogram almost appears as an early Whistlerian "butterfly" before it evolved, I thought the work possibly by Whistler...

Color etching titled "La Mare" ("the pond"), featuring a whitewashed two story country house or inn by a dirt road next to a pond, signed in pencil below the image "de Croisset". There is a printed label on the backing stating that this is a limited edition. A search by this name does not reveal a listed artist; I suggest that this might be a pen name/pseudonym. The date is probably circa 1930's to about 1950 at the latest. This was framed but the frame is falling apart so will be shipped un...

Original scarce to rare etching of the year 1910, "The Avenue, Valenciennes", signed at lower right margin in pencil by the important American etcher, illustrator, critic, author and teacher JOSEPH PENNELL (1857-1926). The print measures 10" by 13" inside the mat (12 1/2" by 15 1/2" in the framing). After the signature, the "imp." indicates that Pennell would have printed this himself. The artist needs little introduction, as he was one of America's most prolific graphic artists, having produce...
