A student of Joichi Hoshi who was influenced by Hoshi's use of metallic pigments, the artist set the flowers and partial moon (or sun) against a metallic background. Torii Kiyonaga, Japanese, 1752-1815, "Two Women with Young Servant". This woodblock print by Torii Kiyonaga measures 9 1/2 x 7 inches. It is signed, sealed and titled within the image. Kiyonaga was one of the great masters of the full-color print depicting courtesans, beautiful women and Kabuki actors. Head of the Torii school, he excelled with "bijin-ga" (beautiful women) prints and these were considered to be his best works.

This is a finely detailed wood engraving by American artist Hendrik Glintenkamp (1887-1946) The title is: Manhattan construction, Radio City, N.Y. It was created and printed in 1932, and is numbered 25/100. Hand signed in pencil lower border and also on the back of the sheet. Very fine condition.
Around 1960 Haku Maki probably did the Ox as a woodblock print. He was then a young artist in Tokyo. He may have done some Ox images before James Michener did his now wellknown book, but probably not many: 510 were used in the book The Modern Japanese Print". The prints of Japanese artists included in the book are large-ish, it is not embossed. The print is in excellent shape--it is still tipped onto the original archival backing that was in the book.
