One of two works by the artist in my shop, this is an etching on paper, 8 1/2" by 11" inside the mat opening, 20" by 15 1/2" framed, signed in pencil at lower right margin "PHILIP KAPPEL", and titled at lower left margin "West Indian Grandeur---Haiti". This is a fine etching of a figure on the coast balancing a load on her head as she gazes out to sea at a clipper ship in full sail, a coconut palm leaning exotically at left...

Etching titled at lower left within the plate line in pencil "Dans le Vieux Carre New Orleans", signed within the plate line at lower right by the listed English-born artist who worked in a number of geographical areas of the United States, LEON PESCHERET (1892-1971). States in which the artist worked include Louisiana, Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Wisconsin (where he lived for quite some time), Illinois, and notably, Arizona and the Southwest...

A circa 1950 artistic black and white photo of the docks at Monterey, California, pencil signed on the mount as "Edna S Deuren" or similar. The gentlemen standing at left with fedoras and cap are looking down on the small fishing craft at a time when Monterey's fishing industry was in high gear. Measurements are 9 1/4" by 7 1/4" (photo itself) and 20 1/2" by 17" as framed. Condition is very good.

Scarce Currier and Ives lithograph print, sheet size 11" by 15", image area 8 1/2" by 12 3/8", titled "Prairie Hens". This is apparently a scarcer small folio image, as Cohenour prices it over $400 in his Currier price guide. The print is in acceptable condition, with the image area generally clean, and only one tiny spot of foxing visible, although there is a diagonal light crease at upper right corner, visible only when viewed in raking light...

For the alum of the University of California at Berkeley, a fine etching of the year 1947, titled "Campanile, U.C." at lower left margin and pencil signed at lower right by listed California artist ALEXANDER (ALEC) STERN (1904-1994), the subject the iconic Campanile bell tower on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley. The view takes in the tower, the East Bay hills beyond, a campus building, and in the foreground, likely the famous Sather Gate...

Lithograph, 14 3/4" by 12 1/4" inside the mat, 21" by 18" as simply framed, signed in the plate at lower left "Merlin" and dated nearby 1939, also numbered (I think, also, in the plate, interestingly), 14/34 at lower right. This is a scarce work by the American Scene listed artist MAURICE MERLIN (1909-1947). The artist's short life likely accounts for the lack of recognition of his work...

The subject is identified at bottom edge in the image, as "Gerusalemme" (Jerusalem) and is assigned reference number 4019 there. This is a view of the so-called "Golden Gate", the oldest of the gates in the walls surrounding Old Jerusalem...

Woodblock on very thin, delicate Japan type paper, 14 1/2" by 10" inside the old mat, signed at lower right margin in Hebrew, numbered there 53/100, (part of the numbering apparently in green ink), the subject a holy or religious Jewish orthodox man with traditional clothing and hair style. I am not able to read the Hebrew and a friend who can was not able to decipher the writing. Regardless of artist name, the print is beautifully conceived and executed...
