For the collector of fine modern and surrealist art, this is a pencil signed etching on Arches Vellum paper, titled "Code of Faces V" or "Visages V", or "Quatre Visages" created in 1962 by noted Romanian French Jewish artist VICTOR BRAUNER (1902-1966). There was a series of etchings by the artist that year, all variations of this same theme. Measurements are 19 1/4" by 14 1/2" inside the mat, (27" by 21 3/4" as framed). For the collector of Ashcan School/The Eight, or early 20th century American art, here is a special work: a pencil signed print by JOHN SLOAN (1871-1951), titled "Man Monkey", and inscribed "100 proofs". This special piece, which dates to the year 1905, came from the personal collection of Peter Morse, who wrote the catalog raisonne of Sloan's graphic work. There is a charming typed letter in a sleeve on the reverse side, on the letterhead of Morse in Washington, D.C., dated Christmas 1966...

Lithograph, subtly colored in black, tan/gray and white, numbered at lower left margin 8/100, pencil signed at lower right, by one of England's earliest Abstract Expressionist painters, FRANK AVRAY WILSON (1914-2009). The print measures 25 1/4" by 19 1/2", and is presently housed in a simple metal frame which has wear. This is an original etching and aquatint print with embossing on a heavy, quality handmade paper, the sheet 19 1/2" by 26", (currently unframed), the work titled "The White Nile", signed in pencil at lower right and numbered 44/125 at lower left. The total edition (including proofs?) may have been 250. The print is extremely clean and fresh and in excellent condition, with the exception of some tape residue on the reverse and very small light stain at left margin, barely visible...

This is an etching by the important American artist JOHN SLOAN (1871-1951), titled "Dupont's Ride", on wove paper, in an edition of apparently 1,000 examples, published in Boston in 1902 by the Frederick Quinby Company. It is part of a series issued to illustrate the writings of French novelist Charles Paul deKock. One of a number of prints by this artist in my inventory, this is a fresh and clean rather early example of one of William Russell Flint's fine color reproductions issued in limited editions for collectors over a period of decades. This one is signed by the artist in pencil at lower right and bears the characteristic embossed Fine Art Trade Guild blind stamp in lower left margin. The title of this image, which was issued in the year 1942 in an edition of 500 examples, is "Mirror at the Ballet"...

This is a small etching (6 1/2" by 4 1/2", 12 1/4" by 10 1/4" in metal frame with black mat) by the noted California artist HARRIET GENE ROUDEBUSH (1908-1998), titled at lower left "Flower Stand" and pencil signed at lower right by the artist. Roudebush was born in Portland, Oregon and moved to Sacramento as a youth. Art education in the Bay Area followed, in the late 1920's, and by 1932 she was producing etchings, generally of familiar Bay Area scenes. She worked until at least the 1970's...

Original stone lithograph, not an offset print, 23 3/4" by 26 3/4" inside the mat (not examined out of frame), signed in the plate by the artist Jan TOOROP and dated in the plate 1915. Executed primarily in black, note the color----pale orange in the cap and shirt, blue in the trousers. Toorop is a major Dutch artist, one of whose works (painting) just exceeded $700,000 at auction. His prints and posters are much more affordable. I don't see that this one is pencil signed...
