This note concerns Poem 70-38, a rarely seen Big Red. NOTE: Daniel Tretiak created the term Big Reds for Haku Maki's large works centered on large kanji in red, usually on a black background and often done in broad strokes. Large ones in blue or yellow or green came to be termed Big Blues, Big Yellows, Big Greens, and so forth.

Poem 70-19 is one of the fairly small group of deep blue prints that Maki made. This one is 5.75 in W x 8.5in H and created in 1970. It is in good condition, with some toning due to its once having been framed.

Original 1974 Marc Chagall (1887-1985) color lithograph on lustrous Japon Nacre paper, the title "King David" (1974)---Sorlier #721, the sheet 11 1/2" by 8 1/4", measuring 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" inside the present mat, and 16" by 13" simply framed. The print is not laid down, but is taped to the mat, at the corners, on the reverse side...

The dramatic Poem 70-37 is the kanji for Self已. It measures 17.5in W x 24in H and is in very good condition.(There is slight toning in the margins.)

Poem 71-76 is a yellow-gold print with a bit of a paisley influence. It is number 28 of an edition of 154. Created in 1971, it measures 13in wide x 19.5in high. It is in very good condition. There is tape residue on the back but the front is perfect. .

For the Norman Rockwell fan who can't quite swing a real drawing or painting, (a painting brought a record $22 million at New York auction in 2014), this is most definitely the next best thing.....a PENCIL SIGNED BY THE ARTIST limited edition print, numbered 55/200. This image was created by one of America's best known and best loved illustrators for the cover of the Saturday Evening Post edition of October 4, 1919...

Pencil signed and numbered lithograph print of a Civil War subject (Confederate soldiers with their flag, surrounded by gigantic black-eyed Susans), 13" by 11", 19" by 17" framed, by the well listed Louisiana artist ROLLAND HARVE GOLDEN (1931-2019). A pencil signed limited edition color print "We The People 1787", featuring Ben Franklin at printing press with assistants, evidently producing copies of the Constitution for distribution in the colonies. The work measures 18 3/4" by 25 1/4" and 25" by 32" framed/matted (wood frame, no glass). The artist signed in pencil at lower left margin and at lower right the piece is numbered 344/2000...

These are 3 different “takes” of the kanji for Stone. Red is Work 74-58 (Stone) ; Green is 76-56 (Stone); Blue is 76-54 (Stone). The green one is larger than the other two. All have the striking black sun as one stroke of the kanji.

This print--Haku Maki's Poem 71-9--is the kanji for woman.

A rare print by surrealist print maker Ozaku Seishi, professor emeritus from Tama Art University. He is best known for small edition prints, usually up to 30 copies, limitless experimentation with printing techniques and surrealist, often graphic imagery resembling distorted reality ¬neither quite explicit nor quite horror, but rendering a fairly dark version of dreams. This aquatint is from a 1974 portfolio titled “World of Children” (子どもの世界), which consisted of 30 aquatints...
