This is a work by highly regarded American artist THOMAS WILLOUGHBY NASON (1889-1971). Nason was a Boston-born artist who by the late 1920's had taught himself the fine art of creating prints in the wood engraving process. This process was popular for illustrating books in the 19th century but by the twentieth it had fallen from favor. He revived the medium and truly excelled at it. For the collector of fine photographs, here is a scarce or rare example of the work of major American photographer IMOGEN CUNNINGHAM (1883-1976). The image is of Anna Freud (1895-1982), the youngest child of famed psychologist Sigmund Freud, taken in 1959. Max Thorek (1880-1960) was considered one of the outstanding surgeons of all time, but he was also noted as a very talented photographer, his efforts peaking in the 1930's and 1940's when he contributed mightily to the pictorialist movement. This original photograph itself measures 9 5/8" by 12 1/2" (other measurements 12 3/4" by 14 3/4" inside the outer, modern mat, and 17 3/4" by 21 3/4" as framed)...

Interesting, graphically arresting, colorful original lithograph from 1978, 27" by 19 1/2" inside the mat, protected in simple metal frame and plexiglas (not assembled currently), of a 1978 exhibition at the Museo Espanol de Arte Contemporaneo in Madrid. The upper quarter contains most of the print, the middle is the colorful area, and at bottom in large print is the word "MIRO"...

A striking mid century aquatint etching in colors by the noted European artist and print maker JOHNNY FRIEDLAENDER (1912-1992). The unframed print, 8 1/2" by 5 1/2" inside the present mat opening (sheet 13 1/2" by 9 1/2") is signed at lower right margin with the artist's distinctive signature and numbered 41/55 at lower left. Measuring 15 1/2" by 9 1/2" framed, this was executed by a talented and increasingly sought after artist who is most closely associated with Florida and California. A monograph on him was recently published by Ron Newsom of Florida, a friend and neighbor of the artist in his later years...

For the collector of fine modern and surrealist art, this is a pencil signed etching on Arches Vellum paper, titled "Code of Faces V" or "Visages V", or "Quatre Visages" created in 1962 by noted Romanian French Jewish artist VICTOR BRAUNER (1902-1966). There was a series of etchings by the artist that year, all variations of this same theme. Measurements are 19 1/4" by 14 1/2" inside the mat, (27" by 21 3/4" as framed). The total edition was 60 impressions, and this is number 47...

For the collector of Ashcan School/The Eight, or early 20th century American art, here is a special work: a pencil signed print by JOHN SLOAN (1871-1951), titled "Man Monkey", and inscribed "100 proofs". This special piece, which dates to the year 1905, came from the personal collection of Peter Morse, who wrote the catalog raisonne of Sloan's graphic work. There is a charming typed letter in a sleeve on the reverse side, on the letterhead of Morse in Washington, D.C., dated Christmas 1966...

The print measures 25 1/4" by 19 1/2", and is presently housed in a simple metal frame which has wear. Wilson was an active figure in the art scene in London from about the late 1940's, peaking artistically in the 1960's, before ceasing exhibition and promotion in the mid 1970's...

This is an original etching and aquatint print with embossing on a heavy, quality handmade paper, the sheet 19 1/2" by 26", (currently unframed), the work titled "The White Nile", signed in pencil at lower right and numbered 44/125 at lower left. One of a number of prints by this artist in my inventory, this is a fresh and clean rather early example of one of William Russell Flint's fine color reproductions issued in limited editions for collectors over a period of decades. This one is signed by the artist in pencil at lower right and bears the characteristic embossed Fine Art Trade Guild blind stamp in lower left margin.
