Of leafy abstract design, outlined in sterling silver, enameled in purple, yellow and blue, with a plain sterling silver band. The inner band bears the maker’s mark of Josie, along with marks for sterling and a number, possibly 10.54. There is also another mark that resembles concentric circles and that could represent a copyright mark. The top of the ring measures 1 1/8 inches long by 7/8 inch wide; the ring is a size 4 ½. This pin is a late 20th century rendition of a traditional Russian balalaika composed of sterling silver strings and fittings on a triangular piece of amber. The neck has a layer of what looks like pressed wood to serve as the fingerboard. Setting and band composed of layers of silver wire, set with an amber cabochon. The amber shows no wear and is securely bezel-mounted. The outer band exhibits the Poland hallmark for Warsaw and indicates .800 silver content, dating 1963-1986. It also bears the maker’s initials of J.O. Here is a well-made and nicely conceived silver pin by an unknown studio jeweler. The triangular base is impressed with a geometric pattern enhanced by oxidized surfaces of various metallic shades. A convex silver disk is mounted on the panel at a jaunty angle for contrast. The pin has a commercial rollover clasp in good working order.
