Cast sterling head of a raven, in classic Northwest coast design, possibly Haida, very refined form with good detail, an inset cabochon stone for an eye, appears to be an agate or quartz, the attached chains are gold, as is the twist...

It seems that I will be closing the year with modernist pieces by Erika Hult de Corral. I have already presented two of her necklaces in the last few weeks which have already found new caretakers and this evening it is time for a ring. Though rings are not an uncommon form in the world of vintage Mexican silver jewelry, I have to admit that the examples available usually fall on the conservative side of design but from time to time something interesting and eye-catching shows up...

I have said in the past that Erika Hult de Corral is among the few designers in the world of vintage Mexican silver jewelry for whom I will cross the 1980 threshold. Having studies in the Parson’s School of Design in Paris, she worked with both Ledesma and Sigi Pineda in Taxco before she ventured on her own in the 1960s. Ric’s work can be inspiring when one catches her in her good moments and I am constantly in search of good examples signed by her...

I have said in the past that Erika Hult de Corral is one of the few designers in the world of Mexican silver jewelry for whom I will cross the 1980 threshold without second thoughts. Silver Renaissance more than warrants the… “transgression”...

Offered here is a magnificent Matl necklace created by Ricardo Salas. It is the ultimate statement piece. Nineteen panels in total, each with three amethysts and sixteen turquoise cabochons. I believe this likely dates 1980's. It's signed and hallmarked, hand etched, with "Matl Mexico 925 M. Reg 142073 MS-12". When open, the inner length, not including the clasp, is just shy of 17". Width is 2 1/4". Weight is 217 grams. Collector quality.

Transparent, opalescent graduated lucite beads are strung on knotted red silk cord and have cast matte gold caps on either end of the larger beads. 43" (109.4 cm) long, the center front bead is a little over 1 1/4" (3.4 cm) in diameter. The smallest beads at the back are a hair over 1/2" (1.3 cm) in diameter. The necklace closes with a lobster clasp that attaches to a disc signed GFF on one side and FERRE Made in Italy on the other. The necklace is in perfect condition...

Sterling silver man's signet ring by David Yurman, featuring a square faceted meteorite, signed by Yurman with initials, shows the atomic symbol with the letters Fe inside, indicating the presence of iron in the meteorite...

A veritable show-stopper, this fine, .950 silver Mexican pendant combines brutalist elements with a classic Aztec Revival, beautifully carved obsidian "mask". Signed by Fernando Alvarez Mendez Mateo of Taxco, it was crafted in the post-1980 period yet is exhibits such craftsmanship, I wouldn't have been surprised if I had found an Eagle mark on it...

Though only known to us by his (I am assuming) initials maestro CEL is not a stranger among lovers of Matilde Poulat's exuberant jeweled designs. His creations are indeed avidly sought after as worthy alternatives to Matl's ever-ascending-in-price examples and my experience all these past years has made me look for and try to acquire his work whenever possible...
