A masterpiece by one of Japan's preeminent artists, Seiko Sawada b.1894-1988. This signed piece was executed out of keyaki wood in his younger days in the 1930's depicts Ebisu, one of the seven lucky gods, riding a fish and a wave spouting out of the fish's mouth. Daikoku, the god of abundance, is riding his treasure bag holding his hammer of magic. The Sawada Museum is in Atami, Shizuoka. Sawada was awarded the Order of Merit in the 1970's.

Offered is this beautiful set of six glass stems, made by Bimini Werkstette, around 1930. Each glass is just under 6 inches (15 cm) tall and they are in very good condition. The glass is extremely light and delicate. Unsigned, but guaranteed to be by Bimini (Bimini stems are shown on page 67 of Judith Miller's book, '20th century glass' - shown in last picture here).

Unusual early Showa period (1930s) ceramic sake cup made in nerikomi (agateware) technique, its body with vertical grooves all around the perimeter. Nerikomi (translated as “mix and pull up”) is achieved by laminating different colored clays together and throwing them on a wheel to develop a swirling and spiraling effect. Beautifully made, wonderful patterns, glazed on the inside for safe drinking, inscribed by the potter the bottom, very pleasant to hold...

Beautiful red and white sunbonnet quilt, c.1930's. There are 18 sunbonnets girls and the quilt measures 68" by 90". The fabric seems to be a sort of rayon, perhaps, as it has a sheen. The all around red scalloped edging is 4 1/2" wide and the backing is all white. There are some light brown stains around on one of the sunbonnets(see photo). Otherwise, excellent condition. Japanese folk art, farmer's clay doll: 11 1/2"h x 5 3/4"w

All the clay dolls are somehow originated from the Fushimi clay doll of the Kyoto area. Fushimi dolls were originally sold as souvenirs to the pilgrims on the road of Fushimi Kaidou from Kyoto to Fushimi Inari Shrine in the early Edo period (1600-1868). By the end of 19th century, these dolls were made all over Japan...

Relatively high, straight sides with a constriction under the edge, decorated with the typical green glaze patches and geometrical patterns and plant motives in iron brown on white slip. Set of 12 Edwardian sterling silver goblets. Made by S. Kirk & Son Inc. in Baltimore.

Each: Ovoid bowl on cylindrical stemp flowing into domed foot. Dense fronds and flowers repousse. Mouth rim molded and foot rim crimped. Tactile easy-grip form with nice balance. Fully marked including maker’s stamp (1925-32), no. 402, and phrase “Hand Decorated”. Excellent condition.

This silver overlay vase was produced in Germany by Friedrich Spar & Company around 1930. Except for a number 21 in red it is not signed but we are certain of its origin. The vase measures 7 inches in diameter. The art deco design is Asian inspired with pink flowers and branches spreading around the porcelain. The ground color is medium blue which contrasts so beautifully with the pink blossoms. The silver work is elaborate. Condition: Excellent
