This lovely vase was made in the early 1950s by Dino Martens for Aureliano Toso. Marc Heiremans documents the model #5148 and date of 1952-53 in his book DINO MARTENS, p. 163 and 190. Aventurine, champagne and opalino half filigree embrace the body of the vessel and ribbon details were applied to the lip and neck. The vase measures 5 1/2"H, 4 1/2"D. and is in good vintage condition.

Measuring 63 x 88 inches (160 x 224 cm), this hand-embroidered wedding shawl from the remote region of Indus Kohistan in northeast Pakistan is estimated to date to the mid or late 20th century. Worked in extremely fine cross stitch and satin stitch in silk thread in interlocking geometric motifs and embellished with beaded edges, a textile such as this may take up to six months to produce. This shawl is embroidered on a black cotton ground and is in excellent condition.

This embroidered shirt panel is typical of the traditional embroidery of Kandahar ("khamak") in its limited range of colors and its depiction of geometric motifs of traditional Islamic art. Silk thread in extremely delicate satin stitch in counted-thread technique on a fine silk background which has been stitched to a cotton linen. It measures 38 x 43.5 cm and is dated to the early 20th century. Condition excellent, only two inconspicuous stains on one side.

The iconography of the Hayagriva horse is often found in Buddhist iconography. Wonderful Zen quality to the brushwork, great composition, beautiful use of color. Brocade silk mounts, lacquered wood scroll ends. A Hazara puttee estimated to date from the mid to late 20th century, in perfect condition. Measures 10x65 cm (with the tassel, 124 cm in length). Condition is excellent. On one side is a printed fabric, probably from Russia. The extremely fine brick stitch in interlocking diamond patterns is a hallmark of Hazara embroidery. Probably from Jaghori (Ghazni) or Bamiyan province.

Vintage pair of cut jadeite pieces to be used as Chinese scholar’s scroll weights. Stone of olive green color with natural lines and differently colored veins, sides showing the skin of the boulder from which the pieces were cut. Nicely polished, very pleasing objects for a scholar’s desk. Height (left one of the first photo) 2 11/16 inches, weight of the left one 265 grams (9.4 ounces), the right one 210 grams (7.4 ounces).

Late Meiji to early Taisho (1920s) Japanese Kutani porcelain obidome (sash ornament) with enamel decoration of various flowers. Obidome is worn on an obi cord that holds the obi sash together, it is the only type of jewelry worn by Japanese women on formal occasions, and could serve as netsuke as well.
