A large cow hide blanket, similar to a hide displayed at IES Museum, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. At first appearance, one might think this in the style of western Native America rock art or primitive Australian aboriginal art, due to the abstracted human figure and geometric forms. However, the origin is Ethiopia or northeastern Africa. Extreme dimensions are 72" by 64". The age is difficult to determine...

Found in Freeport, Maine, this is a PAIR of circa 1870 American drawings, (possibly a bit earlier), the first of General George Washington on a prancing horse, the second of a cut glass compote overflowing with fruit. Each measures 11 3/4" by 8 3/4" inside the mats, 16" by 12" overall, one of the mats deep maroon, the other, black. They are unframed, taped on the reverse to the mats at the edges...

A work of studio pottery, found in Southern California, the color a rich earthy brown, the vessel pierced intentionally by the artist to create naturalistic openings, similar to the distinctive style of Peter Voulkos (1924-2002). The piece measures 7 1/2" high by 5" diameter. The piece is signed on the bottom "Balvin 79". Surprisingly I do not see a studio potter by this name, but the artist was obviously talented and also familiar with Voulkos' acclaimed work.

Early Showa period Japanese black silk woman's formal kimono with long sleeves decorated on the bottom of the front, back, and interior with a continuous ukiyo-e scene featuring commoners engaged in various activities in a village. German 800 silver wine trolly nef, ca 1920. A 3-mast galleon with billowing sales and complicated rigging. Gun ports open and cannons ready to fire. Lots of deck action, too with fighting swordsman and fallen sailors. Holds a special cargo because wood-style hull is a wine trolly. Figurehead spigot with threaded plug, and dolphin side mounts with rotating wheels for cruising across the table. Gives new meaning to the expression “getting sloshed”. This is a matching pair of decorative prints, 14" by 9 1/2", in thin simple black frames, the prints appearing to be on thin tissue type paper, laid on boards. I am not knowledgeable about Japanese prints, but I would guess these to be of 20th century age. They appear to be in some places unevenly discolored, and browned by age (though not as much as the photos might indicate), but perhaps the paper was brownish to begin with. Decoy of a Canada Goose, dimensions roughly 28" by 9" by 8", weight 8 1/2 pounds, unsigned. I am not able to attribute this to any particular carver. As an art dealer I cannot claim to be a specialist in duck and goose decoys, but I think this has some age, circa mid 20th century. There is convincing wear, and a deep split in the wood along the left side, as if from the wood drying over time. A fine piece of folk art for the home. Came from a high end Beverly Hills estate.
