Japanese tall brown Lacquer on wood Candlestick, 28" high, 12" diameter-base diameter, 4" diameter-top, attached brass round dish on top and brass hook on the side. Lacquer surface shows wear and tear, as is condition.

This traditional saki (sake)container was probably brought over by a veteran from WWll. The sisal wrap covering protects the stoneware "keg". There is a filling port with cork plug on the top and a 2nd port for pouring low on one side. The sisal covering has painted kenji and graphics on one side...which is somewhat discolored from years of sitting on a shelf...approximately 8x8x8 inches...

Pair Japanese carved and hand painted on heavy solid Ivory Mandarin Ducks(couple) with inlaid Mother of Pearl eyes, 3 3/8" high, 4 1/4" x 2" wide each, beautifully detailed carving and painted with water color on Ivory. These couple of Mandarin Ducks are made in Japan during 1950's and sold at Gump's in U.S., still retain the partially torn paper stickers "Made in Japan" on the bottom of the male duck. Japanese plaster and paper mache mask of a Boddhisattva (Bosatsu in Japanese), a Buddhist monk who has reached a high level of enlightenment. The mask has long earlobes, typical of a holy being in Buddhism, green lacquered hair pulled into two buns, and golden lacquer skin with traces of black lacquer. Early 20th century. Large Japanese Gigaku demon mask, covered with silver, gold, and bronze lacquer. The colors gold is associated with the underworld, especially when apparent in a demon's eyes. This mask sports long fangs, a stubby ridged nose, and furrowed brow. The inside of the mask has rice paper with kanji signature of the sculpting artist. Tiasho age c1920. Japanese large Cherry wood Veneer serving Tray with two(2) handles, 20" x 13" wide, 1 3/4" high rim, very interesting design of natural tree roots veneered, applied on top of the wood and lacquered on top. Bottom is black lacquered wood. This is brand new item, produced from north east region of Japan, never been used before, comes with original maker's paper box.

A large Japanese gourd flower container with a section of the gourd cut out to place a small container to decorate flowers inside. A rattan handle is attached on the top of the gourd. Hisago is a type of gourd often used for various purposes in Japanese culture. The gourd embodies the Japanese aesthetic of wabi sabi. Age: 20th century. Size: height 18" diameter 17.5"

A Mashiko ware tea bowl (chawan) by Hamada Shoji. The bowl is glazed in a style known as kaki yu or persimmon color glaze which is often seen in Mashiko wares. Hamada Shoji along with Yanagi Muneyoshi and Barnard Leech were part of the mingei movement in the late 20th century. The movement emphasized the simple minimalist beauty found in daily objects made by unknown artists. Thus, Shoji never signed his works, where he too wanted people to simply appreciate his ceramics, not his notoriety...

Three(3) Japanese Hina Dolls, Meiji period, 9 1/4" to 6 1/4" high, 4 3/4" to 5 1/2" wide, 3" deep, with humorous face expressions were very well executed, carved out of the wood and lacquered, all have glass eyes. Each guys wearing silk garment and hat. Three(3) pieces of accessories came with doll set and the condition is good except silk garments are stained slightly with age and one(1) hat has loose rope.

Brilliant folk art piece. A clay 'Fushimi Ningyo' sumo doll from the 1930s. Fushimi Ningyo dolls were sought after souvenirs by visitors to Kyoto. Fushimi Inari being one of the must see great shrines of southern Kyoto. The detail of the arms and fabulous facial expression make this a collector's piece.
