From our Southeast Asia Collection, a superb Indonesian ebony wood carving of a Legong dancer, expertly rendered capturing the marvelous grace and elegance of this traditional Balinese dance.
As Wikipedia describes it, "Legong is a form of Balinese dance. It is a refined dance form characterized by intricate finger movements, complicated footwork, and expressive gestures and facial expressions. Legong probably originated in the 19th century as royal entertainment...
The massive stone carving of a stump of a tree is a 1970’s, 1980's product. It depicts two large beetles sitting on the top of a rotted stump; their eggs are nearby. Some fungus and mushrooms are growing from the top and sides of the stump. Several leaves lay on the side as well. The carving is superbly realistic. It is 6 ½” high, 7 ½” wide from the widest part and 8” thick. It is in excellent condition.
The Steuben apple was introduced in 1940 and designed by Angus McDougall. It is still a favorite today. It measures 4" high and is perfect condition. It is Steuben number 7874D.
This large carved 1970¡¯s lapis snuff bottle is 3 ½ inches tall, 2 ½ inches wide and 1 ¼ inches in depth. One side depicts two magpies standing under a rose bush; the other side is plain. It was carved and polished very well and it is in great condition.
Painting by Chinese artist Ching Xiangko of five cute, swimming shrimp. There are subtle variations of color and depth in each shrimp, showing the artist had great control over the ink distribution. Signed and stamped, dated between 1960-1970.

Chinese jadeite bangle bracelet, beautiful medium green jadeite with areas of very light orange color and a high luster, 14 karat gold fittings with incised details and chain, small light green jade cabochon detail on clasp, mark "14K 585".

Beautiful scroll painting by artist Yuan Feng Zhau of a robed man playing the flute, riding upon the back of an ox. The suggested movement of the ox seems as if it is dancing along with the music. Extreme attention to detail is shown, especially in the very fine brush strokes used for the man's hair. Signed and stamped in the corner. 20th century

Japanese bronze vase of a pear form, with a narrow, ridged rim, and applied green pigment to enhance the patina. Its front bears a large incised peony with leaves and a small flower bud at its sides. Included is a wooden storage box.

This carved dark hair crystal snuff bottle is a 1970’~1980”s product. It is 3 ¾” high, 1 3/8” wide and 1” thick. It is carved as a bamboo stalk with small branches and leaves around it. There are two dragonflies resting on the stalk. It has an agate cap. It is very well hollowed and it is in great condition.
A Chinese landscape painting done on a gold paper base done in the style of Zhang Da Qian. The work contains a signature and seal of Zhang Da Qian's noted disciple Sun Yunsheng (1918-2000). Zhang Da Qian established a style influenced from traditional Chinese landscape paintings combined with Song Dynasty style ink wash landscapes. Work is dated in June of 1975. Chinese calligraphy painting of a famous poem "Li Bai" originally written in the Tang Dynasty. This poem has been rewritten by artist Zhongshan in Autumn of ??22 in Nanjing. Approximate translation of the poem is as follows:
"The sun shining (white), the furnace being prepared and the smoke spreading throughout. The waterfall bubbling in front of the river and flowing (with drops of water splashing)..."

Large scroll painting of a large tree sporting many twisting branches, with bright blooming flowers and leaves, and several playful squirrels climbing about or having a meal. Beautiful coloring and very detailed. Extremely fine brushstrokes are used to create the squirrels' fur. Signed and stamped by artist Huang Chu Xiang.
