Mid to late 19th c American hand carved wood thermometer with engraved brass temperature plate. Interesting to note is that Preezing is the spelling for Freezing. A stunning 19th century Japanese Imari charger with rich vibrant blues featuring crane scenes with alternating floral panels. Some age related wear to the gold gilt on the rim but considered to be in excellent antique condition, it measures 14 inches in diameter. Circa 1880.

A very rare and early imari that more closely resembles the kakiemon palette, but with the heavy use of gold and some under glaze blue, it would fall under the imari family group. This is a very rare dish as it displays the pomegranate fruit in the center well, its seeds being exposed as to suggest the hope of many sons. 5 cranes are symmetrically arranged, 3 on the garden rock, 2 in flight. Condition is excellent, save a very tiny glaze flake to the rim...

A nicely carved natural amber bottle with two crane birds, one on each side with floral designs. The crane represents longevity and also a symbol of age. Size: H. 4.5cm. W. 3.9cm. Condition: No repairs or chips.

This porcelain bowl was produced in Germany by KPM Royal Berlin before 1920. The bowl measures 9 inches in diameter and is 2 1/2 inches high. The rim of the bowl is reticulated with tiny ribbons accenting the design. There is a flowing rhythm in the design that has an art nouveau feel. The center of the bowl is hand painted with luscious, ripe fruits and flowers. There is a rim of lacy gold around the inner rim of the bowl and gold accents around the reticulated border...

This nice early cloth doll has one of the best ink and water color painted face that I have had. She has a nice round head, real hair and sweet little applied ears. She feels like she is stuffed with cotton and rags. Her brown socks continue up to her waist and they are sewn on but her legs and arms feel attached rather than continuous. She has on a wonderful age appropriate wool print dress. There are several big hole in it but it is a lined top so it isn't very obvious...

Late 19th century boxwood netsuke of a catfish doing a bit of an acrobatic exercise. Catfish (Namazu) is believed to cause earthquakes, so this one looks to me at about 6.9 on Richter scale. Excellent quality carving, great face with finely carved numerous teeth, wonderful attention to details such as fin and tail textures, beautiful patina. Signed SHUNZAN on the belly - the artist is listed in NETSUKE by Neil Davey (p. 529, number 2618). Height 1 3/4 inches.

A fine double series opaque twist wine glass with a bell bowl above a stem containing a pair of corkscrews outside of a single multi-ply corkscrew.

Conical foot with rough, snapped pontil. The condition of the glass is excellent, with no cracks, chips, or restoration. Good color, striations, and tooling marks. Any discolorations, specks, or streaks are due to the photos. The height of this fine piece is 6 3/4", with a bowl diameter of 2 13/16" and a foot diameter of 3".

Manchu women never practiced foot-binding. However, during the Qing dynasty, they did wear pedestal aka platform shoes, hoping to give the appearance of smaller feet. These shoes would give the woman a more careful walk which was perceived as dainty and more sensual. In addition, the tips of the shoes would appear to peak out from under the robes, giving the foot more dainty appearance. These shoes are embroidered on both sides with a floral motif...

Carved from gray schist and retaining most of the neck, this head appears to have once been part of a larger relief carving. The back of the head was probably attached to a larger stone background and was later chiseled off. The hair is wavy and the lips are bow shaped. There are no apparent cracks or repairs to the stone, but the lower left ear shows some small loss. Acquired in 1980 from the estate of a history professor who who traveled extensively and collected antiques...

This set of 6 porcelain fish plates was produced in England by Bodley in the 1870s. They are signed J. Birbeck, renowned porcelain painter who worked for many English factories during the 19th and 20th centuries. They measure 9 1/4 inches in diameter.
