Old Chinese ivory figure of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, in a refined and elegant pose. The body is made out of one piece elephant ivory and finish in a term "cold painted ivory" meaning that the color is applied without any firing to fix and harden it. This method of coloring ivory dates back to the Ming times and was particularly popular in the 18th century. This is probably 19th century piece. This late 19th century Chinese carved ivory doctor¡¯s lady is 4 inches long, 1 inch wide and 1 inch thick. Her right hand is leaning on her head and her left hand is resting on her chest. There is a dark line (the center of the tusk) running the length of her side. Her whole body has slightly yellowed due to the age of the piece. She is in excellent condition.

This late 19th century Chinese ivory statue of a bearded scholar is 5 ½ inches tall and 3 inches wide at the widest part. His eyes are half closed; he holds a scroll gently against his cheek. There are two characters read as ¡°Da Ming¡± on the bottom. The inscription means ¡°Great Ming Dynasty¡± which is quite common on ivory carvings or porcelain. There are a few hair line cracks due to the age of the piece. Over all, it is in great condition.

This late 19th century Chinese bamboo brush holder (Bitong) is 12 inches tall and 5 inches at its widest part. It was carved in high relief and lacquered. The top part of the cylinder presents the story of the seven immortals of the bamboo grove. Four immortals are looking at a scroll picture; two are playing ¡°Go¡± and one is watching them play. The bottom half of the cylinder depicts five elders gathering in a garden surrounded by pine trees...

A superb 19th century Imperial Russian wooden Easter egg with polychrome decoration of Christ arising from the tomb flanked by a pair of angels. The scene is beautifully colored and shows dynamic movement. The reverse of the egg bears the gilt letters “XB” for “Christ is Risen.” The egg is completed with its original blue silk ribbon, appropriately worn with age...

Saya type Inrô, decorated with a landscape, waterfall and houses, in golden lacquer taka maki-e, kirigane, maki bokashi, brown lacquer and red lacquer on a black speckled hirameiji background.
On one side a house surrounded by a red fence in a landscape of rocks and pine trees is visible; the other shows in the foreground a building surrounded by pines and in the background a waterfall atop which can be found a house and behind that some mountains...

This 19th century red (almost ox-blood) glazed brush washer has fine crackles covering the entire body and a splash of green sheen in the middle. It is 4 ¼ inches in diameter and 1 ¼ inches high. There are a few small chips on the bottom. Good condition.

A Chinese carved cinnabar lacquer vase (converted into a lamp) decorated with four shaped panels of scholars on a mountainous landscape, the background with scrolling floral borders and motifs. The quality of the carving is one of the best from its period (probably late 19th century) and is in excellent condition – some chips and minor hair lines. It was converted into a lamp sometime later. It works perfectly as a lamp, although there is one area taped (with black tape) on the cord...

A very rare pear-shaped vase - Yuhuchunping - finely painted with black enamel on "biscuit" (un-glazed) porcelain depicting two five clawed dragons above waves, and amongst clouds and flames, in pursuit of pearls. This item was probably made during the reign of the Daoguang emperor (1821-1850) and is possibly a reject from the imperial kilns. This massive mid or late 19th century white jade (nephrite) carved Ru-Yi scepter is 18 ½” long, 5 ½” wide (from the widest part) and 3” high (from the highest part). The whole scepter was carved from a single piece of nephrite. The carving depicts mythical figures, animals and buildings surrounded by clouds. Aside from some natural flaws in the stone, it is in excellent condition.

This late 19th century ivory carved Buddha with two children is 8 ½ inches tall, 3 inches wide and about 2 inches thick. It depicts a smiling Buddha (Hotai) standing on a rock, his left hand is holding prayer beads; his right hand is holding a small fruit. There are two young boys sitting on his shoulders. The statue is mounted in a frame, like a shadow box. The framed piece is 11 ½ inches tall, 6 ½ inches wide and 3 inches thick...

19th century Chinese fan shape ivory carving with stand. One side depicts the popular legendary story of Madame White Snake; the other side presents a short outline of the story. This Chinese bamboo armrest is dated summer, 1876. The artist¡¯s name is Wen Zhu. A large character at the top of the rest reads ¡±Lu¡± or prosperity. It measures 7 1/8 inches long and 2 ¾ inches wide. It is in very good condition.
