An Impressive Brass Inkstand with a Mythological Figure, probably a stylized Griffin (head, beak and wings of an eagle, the body of a lion). Dimensions; 8" square, 11" to handles, 5.5" high. Circa 1860-1875 and in excellent condition.

Rare Warring States, circa 475–221 BCE, squat gray pottery jar, with incised wave, impressed diamond and large carved spiral patterned bands. The spiral pattern is quite interesting as this is usually only seen on archaic jade bi from the period. Some of the tips of the spiral are broken otherwise superb condition considering its delicacy and age. The surface absorbs water very quickly with a distinct petrichor scent. D: 28cm/11in and H: 14cm/5.5in.

A 10.8" square tray signed Teizan and sealed Kinzan, mid Meiji period, depicting an unfortunate encounter between a hawk and a goose.

Condition: Quite good overall condition, There is a faint nick and short enamel crack to the front of the tray, two small areas of enamel cracking to the reverse, and pitting usual to the period. No dents or restoration.

A pair of elaborate porcelain vases with large leaves in turquoise and gilt opening from a narrow base which rests on four wide feet. The base and feet encrusted with vegetation and occasional flowers which also support a large rising stem on either side with roses on one side and blue, orange garden flowers and possibly small lilies on the other side. Hard to imagine putting flowers that wouldn’t clash into these vases...

Chinese Export Blue and White Porcelain Charger/platter, Qianlong period, 1736-1795, 12 3/4" diameter, 2" high, underglaze blue landscape design inside the fan in the center within four(4) sets of floral sprays decorated border terminated with brown rim. One(1) hairline about 2" long glaze hairline at 3 o'clock position, it is tight and not open hairline. This charger will make nice set with #1349149.

Antique Chinese bronze incense burner censer in the form of the Buddhist Guardian Lion - Foo Dog, Qing Dynasty (1644 -1912 AD).

The lion is seated with the left paw raised on a brocade ball, and its scrolling tail flicks upwards.

Fine Large Early Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Horse & Separate Saddle (with Oxford TL Test)

This fine and impressive pottery model of a horse was made during the early Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is "heavily-potted" and made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been cold-painted in a creamy-white pigment with small amounts of red pigment in places, such as within the nostrils. On its back is a large saddle, made separately, that can be removed...

A " textbook " early Ming Longquan charger with a carved decoration. Originally with a extremely nice and thick Celaon glaze. The glaze is so thick that it nearly fills out the recesses of the carved decotation to the center of the piece. Unfortunately there is some wear to the actually outstanding good glaze. Otherwise the piece is in a perfect condition. Ming Dynasty, 15th century. Diameter 27,2 cm.

Waraji (straw sandal) Gata (mold). This mold was used to make the straw sandals worn by farmers. It is of solid carved wood. L. 50cm(19.75") x H.9cm(3.5") x W.9cm(3.5"). Acquired in Yamagata Prefecture in NE Japan (Tohoku), this piece exhibits the wonderful folk qualities of the region. Hung vertically, the "shelf" portion of the mold can hold a small flower vase, creating a lovely "wabi" arrangement for the tokonoma.

This is a fine early Japanese cloisonne vase with an unusual reddish brown ground color. This vase has a lot of fine work and detail. It is actually better in person because it is only 4 3/4 tall and the details in the images have been enlarged. It is not signed and is in excellent condition.

Antique pair of deep brown lacquer bowls. Carved all over with detailed scenes of scholars in gardens and pavilions in the mountains. Dramatic rock formations and various trees. The inside and bottom of each bowl is lacquered black. The rim and foot are ringed in bronze.

Wooden netsuke representing a frog whose eyes are inlaid with horn. It is lying on a water lily folded on itself.

The frog (kaeru) is associated with luck and wealth. Kaeru means both "frog" and "coming home" in Japanese. This extension of meaning is due to the ability of the frog to return each year to the pond of its birth...

This is an exceptionally well carved mask, dating, most probably, to the early 20th century. The artist who created this mask has invested it with a powerful and menacing presence, as the photos will, hopefully, show. The piece measures just over 11 inches in width and is intact, carved from a single tree fungus. A rare and powerful survival.

Antique Japanese stoneware jar from Shigaraki kiln. Beautifully uneven form with high shoulders, tapered body and a narrow foot. Made using the local sandy clay from the bed of Lake Biwa, Shigaraki ware is identified by the embedded granules of feldspar. Mineral glaze is spattered over the surface and areas of dark ash adds depth and a prized natural beauty. Shigaraki is known as one of the 6 great pottery regions of Japan.

A very very rare "Dancer" figure from Teotihuacan of the Classic period 300 AD-900 AD. What makes this figure so special is the remarkably detailed and expressive face of this "Dancer". What makes it so rare is that the head, body, arms and legs are all matching even though the arms and head have been reattached when the figure was found. A masterful rendering of an unusually large rooster posturing in full stance. The metals used are copper, silver, and gold. The major body of the cockerel is called shibuichi which is meticulously composed of silver and copper mixture. The feathers are beautifully sculpted and chased in details. The movement of the feathers pronounce the figurative composition. Its tail feather is patinated and infused into the silver.
