These Chinese woman's Lotus shoes are from Shanxi province and are from the mid 1800's. In Chinese culture, to have, wear or use something from an ancestor (parent, grandparent,etc) was considered as a talisman and gave an element of protection to the user. This pair of lotus shoes was passed to a younger generation whose embroidery skills were, well, not as advanced as the original maker. But clearly the child left her mark on the shoes with the added embroidery of the birds etc.

3 Perfectly matching octogonal blue and white Chinese KANGXI or YONGZHENG Period wine or liquor cups. Early 18th Century. All 3 have a central medallion with an open lotus flower and scroll. The outside is equally decorated with delicately hand painted lotus scroll work and flowers. The rims have a nice diaper border. Condition: very good, no chips, hairlines nor restorations. Chinese Export Famille Rose Porcelain oval shape Barber's Bowl, 12 1/2" wide, 9 1/2" deep, 2 3/8" high, early 1820's, with overglaze Famille Rose flowers in the center inside the deep bowl. All the decorations are done overglaze enamel on the orange peel like surface and highlighted with gold. There are two(2) holes on each side on the bottom rim area, to put the cords through the holes to hang on the wall. The condition is good.

This is a lovely ancient Egyptian Scarab, c. 1200 BC, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 1/2” long (13 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and help it resurrect. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup.
