A very beautifully rendered Japanese treasure ship with intricate details that are just amazing, this large cast iron antique is lacquered with the 'old red' traditional lacquer that can only be found on your older Japanese antiques. Its function is rare as it doubles up as a censer, fine slit holes are found in the front and backsides of the sail, allowing a fine mist of smoke to create an allusion that the ship is sailing through a fog...
A wonderful and very desirable example of an 8-sided Lowestoft tea caddy, or canister. Painted with a flower bouquet and sprays beneath a border of flowerheads and foliate scrolls, the top having flowers and leaves.
The caddy is 3 1/2 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter, and is in superb condition, with no cracks, chips, or restoration. The only tiny blemish of any type is a 3/16" long glaze split at the top of the rim, clearly occurring during manufacture...
This antique lidded container was made for jewelry or other small household items. Obviously hand made, probably by the original owner, it does have a few surface nicks from age and use. With a 5 inch diameter and standing approx 4 inches high, it is a charming artifact of Chinese folk art.
An Excellent Porcelain Armorial Inkstand or Deskset, made by Edme Samson et Cie, Paris, circa 1880. In a Rectangular Shape, with Two Inkwells, with Inserts. Dimensions; 10.25" wide x 7,75" deep x 3.5" high. In excellent shape, except for a slight chip on on of the inkwell tops (see picture).
There is no mark on the underside, but it is definitely Samson, based on other items we have recently posted.
This fanciful Art Nouveau style brass desk box was originally made to hold stamps but would be a great place to store a special ring, cufflinks or a secret. Rectangular shaped, standing on four feet, the hinged cover has a centered sunflower surrounded by leaves and vines, two compartments inside, unmarked. Measures 3 in. x 1 5/8 in. x 1 1/4 in. high.
Condition is near perfect.

This circular-form lidded box is of a type found widely distributed throughout Southeast Asia as a Chinese trade item exchanged for spices, pearls, precious metals produced by the various foreign island cultures. Small boxes such as this one were possibly intended for cosmetics or spice storage. This box is painted with a stylized flower on the lid surrounded by a hastily-painted leaf border. A Porcelain Armorial Plate made by Edme Samson et Cie, Paris, featuring the Jackson Family Crest. It is marked "Jsckson" on the back and "Ovington Brothers, New York" (old Fifth Avenue Retailer). Dimensions; 9" in diameter x 1" high. Circa 1890 and in excellent condition.
This plain pot metal vessel was used to contain hair oil during the reign of Chinese Emperor Daoquang about 1850. Standing about 6 inches high and 3.5 inches diameter at the widest point, a woman would dip her comb into the oil before combing her hair. I do have an identical matched pair of these but am selling them separately.
A Chinese doctor would use this stoneware clay pillow to support the wrist while taking the pulse of a patient.
The pillow was made using slab construction and all the surfaces are decorated with a star pattern and covered with a traditional glaze. There is a tiny vent hole on the bottom to facilitate firing. It measures 4.5x3 x 1.5 inches and is covered with traditional green glaze...

A finely detailed Imari koro, late 18th century, 2.875" in height, 2.5" in diameter at the top, 2,875" at the base, with a delicate open work lid.

A lobed 4" white porcelain Kakiemon bowl with molded iris plants on the exterior. The interior is simply enameled with four small floral clusters.

This is a rare well modeled and detailed 19th century porcelain elephant by Samson. It is based upon an outstanding 1680 Japanese Kakiemon model, which, in turn, was derived from Chinese prototypes. The piece is eleven inches in height and is enameled in red and cobalt.
Condition: Excellent, no chips, hairlines or repairs.
A 9.5" signed 19th century Satsuma bowl, possibly Razan. This is a beautifully enameled piece; over a ground of raised chrysanthemums are two painted panels, one of a bijin, the other of a mountain landscape.
Condition: Very good, there is one old hairline repair to the rim, illustrated in photograph five. No other issues.
A good 11" gourd shaped porcelain bottle by Hichozan Fukugawa. The enameled decoration is of butterflies fluttering through a garden of multicolored chrysanthemums blooming against a fence of bamboo.

A fine and rare 19th century Japanese cloisonne bi-fold table screen in the Kyoto school of Namikawa, depicting a ho bird and dragon. The finely coiled wiring is gilded, as are the back panels of the screen. Each cloisonne panel is wood framed, joined with hinges of silver. Fully opened, the screen measures 8" high and 9" wide.
Condition: Quite fine, with only wear commensurate with age.
An 8.5" blue underglazed eighteenth century Kakiemon foliate plate decorated with a tree of flowering plum. The inner rim bears an enameled garland, the outer rim two simple floral sprays. Ex-Christie's
Condition:A bit of roughness to the unglazed foot, and two old gold lacquer repairs to the rim, one of which is missing most of the gold lacquer. No other faults.
A signed 8" high rectangular porcelain bottle vase decorated with alternating panels of flower bouquets and pine dominated landscapes in the Imari red, blue and gold palette.
Condition: Excellent, having no chips, hairlines or repairs.
Against a ground of sky blue, five silver wired red crowned cranes busily groom themselves on this basse-taille vase of 7.5".
Condition: Immediately above the silver base rim, there is a discolored hairline that extends two thirds around the vase, the slender neck bears an oxidized fault more visible than that at the base.
Small bowl of rounded shape, carved decoration of stylized lotus petals outside, with a short footring. Celadon, rather thick ceramic, with traces of light brown colour coming from a long stay underground. China, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Diameter: 5 3/8" (13,5 cm), height: 1 7/8" (4,8 cm). Slight glaze erosion in some areas around the rim, small chips at base, shape slightly warped, otherwise very good condition.
Jarlet or bottle, with two ring handles, carved footring with dropped base, celadon glaze on brownish body. Traces of soil encrustations in some areas. Thailand, Sawankhalok kilns, ca. 14th to mid-16th centuries. Height: 4 1/2" (11,2 cm). Very good condition.
A nice Bohemian mercury tapered columnar-form mercury glass vase, the sides engraved through a bright red flashing to the silver. The pattern depicts a bird nesting among exotic flower and foliage. The design is accented with applied white lines. The silvering is not in as good condition as one would hope, but the very bright red flashing and the generous size more than makes up for it!

The interior is painted to the centre with a formal floral arrangement, the lobed steep interior sides are painted with alternating complex panels, the exterior sides with formal meandering scrollwork, the six-character mark of Chenghua to base...
A 4.5" octagonal Kakiemon porcelain bowl decorated with a branch of pomegranates. Ex-Christies.
Condition: Good, no chips, hairlines or repairs. The glaze is a bit rough on the upper rim, the enamel worn on one flower on the outer side of the bowl.
A fine bear climbing a rocky ledge decorates this large bronze vase. It bears an impressed mark, untranslated, on the base. The patina is medium brown, the condition is excellent. Height 14.5", Diameter 10"

This cylindrical seal is fashioned from a very pale yellowish-green soapstone and incised on one end with archaistic characters encircled by a shallow incised ring. Otherwise, the seal is undecorated and has a pleasant, satiny sheen from age and use. There are numerous old small chips and wear to the edges of the carved end but not on the characters. This piece has the mellow appearance of an object that was used over a long period of time...

A 21" Meiji period patinated bronze koro with bamboo shaped handles, six panels depicting small birds, and with a kirin resting atop the lid.
A 3.5" vase of midnight blue depicting a pair of songbirds perched upon a branch of flowering prunus. Entirely silver wired, it has quite intricately wired rims and shoulder. The gilded base bears the seal of Ota Tamashiro
