An antique Japanese Cha Tansu (tea chest) made entirely of Rosewood (Shitan). Beautiful configuration of sliding doors, shelves and drawers. Each display shelf has an arabesque border and the center and top shelf have a horizontal scrolling design. The top, back and sides all have floating panels and the chest has an open air design with areas for storage.

An antique pair of Japanese Fusuma doors made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. Natural Urushi lacquer frame and hand painted design of Bamboo trees on one side and Pine trees with Bamboo on the opposite side. Bamboo symbolized tenacity and perseverance while the Pine tree represented a long life making these doors auspicious and full of good luck.

A wonderful mid Edo Period (1603-1868) Hiragata Ao-Oribe Chawan with a rounded brim, made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potters knife and covered with the typical green copper oxide glaze inside and outside.

The tea bowl is in fine antique condition with no cracks or repairs and comes with a very good Japanese wooden box.

Circa 1900, a large needlework panel done in petit and gros point of a dog sitting on a stool in front of a window and bordered by various floral panels. Colors are cream and varied tones of reds, browns and tan. In a museum quality antique tiger maple frame with gold gilt liner and a wood panel back, it measures 23 x 26". Very beautiful Japanese table with four legs in gold, black and brown lacquer with two richly decorated tops. The upper tray presents a decoration of bats, kumori (蝙蝠), in flight in gold hiramaki-e lacquer on a brown lacquer background. The openwork side panels feature the same motif. Antique Chinese Peking glass snuff bottle. Made of black glass overlaid on a pink glass ground. It is carved with a man on a horse on one side and the other with a scholar's attendant walking with a large blossoming branch slung over his shoulder. Large flowering branches sprout from the ground on either side. The lid is made of rose quartz and the spoon is bone.

Antique Chinese carved amethyst snuff bottle. Carved with a garden pavilion and blossoming trees on one side. The scene continues on the other side with a scholar and young attendant in the garden. Lid is made of agate and has a copper spoon.

The beautiful Thai Bronze Buddha statue completely captures his upper body. The Buddha's face is delicate and simply beautiful! His lips are pursed together and his eyes are downcast in deep meditation. It dates back to the late Ayutthaya Kingdom in the 18th century. A lovely piece with excellent detail and patina.

The wooden pedestal was renewed by our family a couple of years ago.

High class Ohi Chawan made by the 8th generation Ohi Chozaemon (1851-1927) 120 years ago and is done in a style known as 'ameyu' or candy glazing. It comes with its originally signed and sealed wooden box.

A large (15 5/8 inch diameter) tile of birds and flowers enclosed within a blue border inside black lines. The tile has the usual thick transparent crackled glaze, muted colors and off-white tone. 15 5/8 inches (38 cm) diameter.

Condition: no cracks, hairlines or repairs. Some very small chips on the edge, the biggest is under the glaze so it must have happened before firing. Strong supports for hanging on a wall.

Rare 17/18c Red Raku Kyogen Tsutsu Chawan (cylinder bowl) with old golden repair.
No mark. The writing on old wooden box says 'Aka Raku Tsutsu Chawan Ichi' which can be attributed to Ichigen or Ichinyu.

According to Raku museum, the pattern with white circles was popular at that time which refers to a design applied on Hakama trousers used for Kyogen, a form of traditional Japanese comic theater.
