Large Japanese early Meiji period sumi ink on paper scroll by calligrapher Ito Keishu (aka Ito Shinpei), who was active circa 1870s to 1890s. Signed and with three red seals. Paper mount and wood scroll ends.
The scroll measures 79” x 32 1/2" (painting size: 54 1/2" x 26”). Good intact condition with some rubbing and soiling evident. There is a small distressed area or repair to the paper mid-way down the scroll on the right side (see enlargement)...

An antique Japanese bamboo Ikebana basket in a free-form nest-like shape created using multi-layered 3/4" wide strips interwoven with rope made of woven bamboo. The voluminous handle was created using interwoven bamboo rope in an abstract style. Patina is in a natural smoke and chestnut color. Flat foot with a three star patterned base. Unsigned. It comes with a cylindrical metal water and flower vessel.

Circa 1820 English, this charming tortoise shell sewing box having zig zag patterned string inlay can also be used as a jewelry box. The interior has fitted tray which still has its original compartment lids and the tray removes to reveal another compartment. In very good antique condition, it measures 10” across, 6.75” deep, 3” high.
A fine hammered copper tray with handles from the workshops of Gustav Stickley in New York. Measures about 16 3/8", 19" across handles and weighs over three pounds. Tray was polished long ago and patina has aged, shows some wear and stains. Joiner's compass mark.

The body is woven with multiple layered bamboo strips in a horizontal pattern which gives strength and tenacity to the piece as well as the symbolic nature of bamboo. The base is a bamboo rope foot with a star patterned bottom. Natural soot patina contrasted against chestnut brown highlights.

A Chinese porcelain water pipe made for the Imperial Palace in Hue. Decoration of dragons in cobalt blue underglaze. Below 4 characters in blue and, which is unusual, 4 other characters incised under glassure, perhaps the mark of the potter or the commander. The silver setting of very good quality is a fine example of fine goldsmith's work, it is perhaps -be Chinese but more probably Annamese. It is exceptional to find a water pipe of this quality.
