Up for sale is a rare antique Chinese silk rank badge, early 1800's, embroidered with a paradise flycatcher bird, bats, peonies, peaches, seawaves, sun disc, colored cloud patterns, buddhist auspicious symbols against a dark blue silk ground; meant to be wore on the back of a Mandarin official's surcoat; intricate embroideries ! Backed with light blue silk lining.
Measurements : 12" x 12.5"
Overall, it is in very good condition, vibrant silk floss embroideries, no tear or wear...

Beautiful Japanese 19th century gilt copper Keman with lotuses. This keman once hung from beams above the altar of a Japanese Buddhist temple. Traditionally, keman are decorated with floral designs originally derived from the use of flower garlands in temples in India. This keman has rare and very old blue glass beads and is remarkably intact. Translation writes that an honored donor named Demura Kojiro presented to temple in city of Wakayama in January Meiji 23 (c1890)...

A comparetivly large sized Japanese Kannon Bosatsu from the Edo Period - about 250 years old - used in Sōfuku-ji ( 崇福寺 ) Temple in Gifu and since 80 years in our collection.
It is made of premium wood and has been carved by a master craftsman. The golden colour is still vivid and shiny and looks absolutely amazing...

Elaborately handled server by Reed & Barton in the "Love Disarmed" pattern. It has the old hallmarks dating back to 1899. This piece is in excellent condition, the figure on the handle and all of the repousse work are very crisp. Originally an asparagus server, it can be used for so many things. It has lovely piercings on the flat portion, and it shows no wear.
It measures approximately 11.25" long and 3.75" at its widest. It weighs 255 grams. It is not monogrammed.

Antique seated bronze Buddha in Maravijaya and Virasana, made in the late 16th or early 17th century in Chiang Mai Northern Thailand.
It shows a rare high quality bronze, very heavy, solid and shiny with rests of gilt.
The statue is our property since 1938 and was exhibited in our private home since that time.
Predominantly hollow inside and nevertheless 6,5 kg heavy.

Mask of the "Nuo" esoteric theater representing the character of Master Jiang, a respected professor. Polychrome wood, with animal hair under the nose and around the chin to represent mustache and beard. China, early 19th century. Height: 9 3/8" (24 cm). From our European Collection, a charming Rococo sofa, early 20th century circa 1900-1920, probably French, executed with lovely curvilinear lines true to the style, with hand-carved shell-shaped and floral motifs executed into the wood frame, and finished with an elegant but understated two-tone gold on gold damask fabric. The fabric is not original, but is quite likely a re-upholstery job from the 1950's or so, and has survived wonderfully since then...

The reason why this bowl is so rare is the fact, that nearly all bowls of this kind of Medallion bowls are " Doucai " bowls on that the underglaze Cobalt - blue outlines of the decoration are filled with overglaze enamels. Sometimes there are also to find such bowls that do show the underglaze blue outlines only, which are for whatever reason still not filled with overglaze enamels. The decoration of such pieces somehow give an " incomplete impression"...

The vases, English from circa 1850, sit on a rococo style attached base with light blue and gilt molded leaves for the base of a fluted and molded vase with a flaring and serrated top rim. The molded flowers are painted in bright enamels. The porcelain is bright white. Both have a sticky label on the underside for the Hackman Collection with the Number,”80” presumably an inventory number. They are 6 inches tall and 4 inches at the widest.
Condition: no chips cracks hairlines or repairs...

Best of the best! Distorted half cylinder shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl made of light, coarse unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical black oniita glaze inside and outside, with the exception of the bottom' the roughly cut foot ring and window, which is decorated with plover birds (chidori) over waves in black under a shin on type glaze. Next to the roughly cut foot ring is a kiln mark (kama jirushi)...
