Beautiful Japanese 19th century gilt copper Keman with lotuses. This keman once hung from beams above the altar of a Japanese Buddhist temple. Traditionally, keman are decorated with floral designs originally derived from the use of flower garlands in temples in India. Elaborately handled server by Reed & Barton in the "Love Disarmed" pattern. It has the old hallmarks dating back to 1899. This piece is in excellent condition, the figure on the handle and all of the repousse work are very crisp. Originally an asparagus server, it can be used for so many things. It has lovely piercings on the flat portion, and it shows no wear. It measures approximately 11.25" long and 3.75" at its widest. It weighs 255 grams. It is not monogrammed.

It shows a rare high quality bronze, very heavy, solid and shiny with rests of gilt.

The statue is our property since 1938 and was exhibited in our private home since that time.

Predominantly hollow inside and nevertheless 6,5 kg heavy.

The reason why this bowl is so rare is the fact, that nearly all bowls of this kind of Medallion bowls are " Doucai " bowls on that the underglaze Cobalt - blue outlines of the decoration are filled with overglaze enamels. Sometimes there are also to find such bowls that do show the underglaze blue outlines only, which are for whatever reason still not filled with overglaze enamels. The decoration of such pieces somehow give an " incomplete impression"...

The vases, English from circa 1850, sit on a rococo style attached base with light blue and gilt molded leaves for the base of a fluted and molded vase with a flaring and serrated top rim. The molded flowers are painted in bright enamels. The porcelain is bright white. Both have a sticky label on the underside for the Hackman Collection with the Number,”80” presumably an inventory number. They are 6 inches tall and 4 inches at the widest.

Next to the roughly cut foot ring is a kiln mark (kama jirushi)...
