For several reasons, this is a very unusual basket. To start with a basic description, it is a very large (17" by 17" by 15 1/4"), square, covered splint basket from the Maine area, most probably made by the Penobscot Indian tribe. The mirror is 10 inches (25.4 cm) overall length by 5.3 inches(13.5 cm) diameter (the mirror portion), and the handle is 5.1 (13cm) inches in length by 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide and 1.2 inches (3.1 cm) tall.
