Rare lotus blossom form of Chinese tea or rice bowl, brown glaze on buff color pottery, dates to Liao Dynasty, (907 - 1125 AD), thinly potted, delicate and beautiful, from collection of Jan Erik Nilsson.
Measures4 1/8" in diameter and is 1 3/8" high.
A very rare example of a lobed foliate bowl from the Song-Liao Dynasty (907- 1125 AD) in rich brown Hunan glaze over buff color body, with a collection tag of Jan Erik Nilsson, the Scandinavian scholar of ancient Chinese pottery.

Authentic 1858 coloured antique steel engraving of Jawahar Singh and his entourage from the watercolour attributed to William Carpenter in the Kapany collection. Inscription on reverse dated circa 1845. Image size 32x22 cm. Laid down on card. Image in good condition, background card with creases and tears.
Examples of sales of this engraving can be found on abe books. Can be viewed in central London and shipped worldwide with insurance.
Eight petal Chinese Tang dynasty (618-907) foliate form bronze mirror with central pierced knob and four relief characters reading “long life, riches, and honor” (chang ming fu gui). 7 1/4” diameter. Good condition overall with typical wear and extensive patina. From the estate of Gerhard Lohmeier, a Diplomat at the German Embassy in Beijing from 1985 to 1989.
Chinese Qing dynasty porcelain deep dish decorated in underglaze blue on a white ground with a central roundel painted in the ‘Master of the Rocks’ style with a figure in a landscape scene with mountains in the background and traditional buildings at the right side. The back wall is decorated with four foliage sprays. A two-character mark within concentric rings on the base translates “harmony jade.” 17th century (transitional to Kangxi period). 8” diameter x 1 1/2” high...

Hemp furoshiki with tsutsugaki tai (sea bream) and bamboo design, whose wefts and warps are hand plied. The family crest is Maruni-Katabami-Mon. Katabami is perennial plant, named oxalis. Hand-sewn but both hems are machine sewn. The sewing machine was already imported in late Edo period and probably it was used widely in Meiji period (1868∼1912). Beautiful 12 inch tall rose pattern signed “Locke Art” vase. The vase has a rayed pattern on the underside of the foot and an etched dentil pattern on the rim. The vase is 4 1/4 inches in diameter at the base and top while the main body is 2 7/8 inches in diameter. This rare form is in wonderful condition.

We have a particular interest in beautiful old Raku tea bowls and spend quite a bit of time searching for exceptional examples to include in our gallery. Here we see a beautiful work that appears to be at least 100-200 years old which would place its era of production in late Edo or Meiji.
