Antique Japanese pair of three-section kiri (paulownia) wood tansu, with metal hirute shaped handles and fan-shaped locks on multi-sized drawers. The top section of each tansu has two large sliding doors, with inner shelving carved in an attractive alter style and two small drawers. One tansu has a middle section with two large doors on attractive hinges incised with a motif of kiri leaves, and a round pierced metal decoration with kiri leaves and flowers...

At Oraibi she carries a yucca whip, at Second Mesa a tray of corn. The Crow Mother is mother of the Hu Kachinas and appears in the Bean Dance. By some Hopis she is considered to be the mother of all the kachinas...

A medium sized carved wood Hopi Kachina doll - Hornet Kachina (Tatangaya) circa 1930. Description of Tatangaya from Colton: "Two types...At Second and Third Mesas he wears a green case mask with datura flower ears. Stripes of all colors surround the face. Cloth ruff, breech clout, and green moccasins. Yellow and red body paint. The Hornet Kachina appears in groups or singly in Mixed Kachina Dance, and the Pamuya. He is said to be of Zuni origin." DIMENSIONS: 7" tall.

A medium sized Hopi Kachina doll carved by Wilson Tewaquaptewa circa 1930. Tewaquaptewa (1871-1960) was the last chief of Old Oraibi. He produced Kachina dolls which are a combination of many dolls and figments of his own imagination. He believed that you didn't carve actual Kachinas for the tourist market. His dolls are usually monochromatic in color (brown, ochre and white and black). His use of symbols, painted on the case mask, seems to be arbitrary. DIMENSIONS: 7" tall.

Body painted with red-brown clay. He carries a feather and a rattle. Koyemsi is the most common Hopi clown. He appears in Mixed Kachina Dances and sometimes a group of Koyemsi appear in a dance of their own. At First Mesa they are said to sing Zuni songs...

A rarely carved secular version of the Buffalo Dance figure. Circa 1920. Having secular eyes, a buffalo dance headdress with horns, kilt, arm bands, and moccasins, and wearing a decorative, wooden, tail-like appendage. Excellent condition with only minor paint loss. In the four decades that I've been collecting and dealing kachinas, this is the first Buffalo Dance figure I've had. Dimensions: 8 1/2" tall.

A polychrome Hopi wicker tray circa 1920-1930. Depicting a Palik Mana wearing an elaborate tableta and a woman's shawl. On the back of the tray there is an uncommon reversal of the image which shows the figure's backside. It is also rare in that the entire body is shown, rather than just the face. Excellent condition, with normal fading on the front. 13" diameter

Antique Japanese bronze mirror with a recessed interior scene in which two cranes and a large turtle kiss in a marshy environment. The turtle's shell has been pierced through so that a cord may be slipped through for holding the mirror. 18th Century Size: 4.75" diameter, .75" depth

This oval repousse box with a well-executed peony design on a hinged lid opens to a beveled mirror and case with three separate compartments covered by a single silver lid with a floral-form knop. The sides are incised with a continuing floral design and the base is impressed in the center with a Chinese character hallmark. The repousse on the lid is very well-worked against a fine punched background...

A splendid antique Chinese agate snuff bottle with a motif of a fish jumping out of the water. The carving is done where the artist used the distinct colorations of the stone emphasizing the fish. Age: 20th century Size: Length 2.25" Width 1.25" Height 0.75"

This snuff bottle is molded in the form of a wine pot which is secured in a woven basket. It is inscribed with the wine maker¡¯s name De Run Zheng and the name of the wine Zhuang Yuan Hong. The seal mark is Yong Zheng period but is considered as Tong Zhi or Guang Xu period (1862~1908). It is 3 inches tall and 1 ¾ inches at the widest part. Beside some small chips on the woven part, it is in good condition.

Antique Chinese carved Rock crystal snuff bottle, with a double happiness symbol carved over a background of squared spirals on its front and back. A large cotton pieced log cabin quilt that is slightly asymmetrical with nine rows to the height as in the picture and eight rows of squares wide all surrounded by a red border. The radiating dark and light bands (barn raising) from the center are not actually centered in the quilt, but start in the lower center as per the pictures.
