A fantastic set of hand painted fish plates, each plate having its own distinctive scene, made in Limoges, France. The plates date circa 1900. Each plate is gold enameled at the rim. Diameter is 9 1/4". Condition is superb (see report below). Backstamp is L. R. I - a manufacturer whose identity I have not solved. Antique Japanese 2-section isho tansu (chest on chest for clothing) made all of kiri (paulownia) wood. The top section has two large drawers and the bottom section has two large drawers and two small drawers on the lower right hand side. Iron hardware includes large round lock plates on the large drawers and matching small round lock plates on the small drawers.

Late Meiji period (1890s to 1912) Japanese kushi (hair comb) inlaid with mother of pearl butterflies among flowers, design continuing onto the back. The body appears to be early plastic, beautiful inlay work, wonderful work in Japanese taste, loss to the wing of the larger butterfly as can be seen on photos. Length 3.85 inches.

This is Sashiko Hanten which the leader of certain occupation group of Edo period wore. A technique to be called very high Sagara embroidery is used for this. This embroiders all by hand. The cotton thread used for embroidery is spun by hand. The thread is dyed with plant dye. It is clothes to identify social position promptly even if anyone looks. The part of the collar has a kanji of Toudori...

Exceptional American coin silver melon spoon in the Grecian taste. Although simply marked "Coin" this spoon could easily be the work of Gorham, Coles, or other makers of similar repute. The matte finished bowl is decorated with repousse lobes highlighted with bright cut engraving; the handle solely with bright cut engraving.

This is a Japanese antique Boro noragi indigo dye hemp Meiji (1868-1912). The indigo dye hemp fades with use is very charming. size: Length 75cm (29.5inch) sleeve to sleeve 123cm (48.4inch)

A piece of Narumi-Kongata (also called Urumi-zome) cloth which is hand-spun cotton and dyed with vegetable indigo. Narumi-Kongata is one kind of katazome (stencil-resist-dye) imitating shibori. It had been produced from late Edo to Meiji period but not produced anymore. It has auspicious shrimp motif with intricate pattern which requires high dye and stencil making technique. In excellent condition. 35cm x 172cm

Probably Ming dynasty or earlier. Artist unknown. Ink and color on paper, no mounting or framing. The painting depicts a scholar resting under a tree and five oxen by the river. The painting has a long rip next to the black ox, and a noticeable damage at the bottom of the paper. Please see pictures for more details.
