The deep, rounded sides rising to a slightly everted rim, the interior covered in a black glaze decorated with two rows of closely spaced vertical russet stripes, while the slightly mottled black glaze on the exterior falls in an irregular line above the foot to expose the fine buff ware. LARGE bowl - may be a flower pot, but without hole. On the flat bottom inside engraved with one five clawed dragon and on the wall outside engraved with a pair of five clawed imperial dragons over waves chasing a fire ball (tams).

An impressive bronze rain drum, weighing 16 kilograms, Dong Son culture, 1st. millenium AD.

A fine Heger 1 type bronze drum with a 12 ray star in the center and concentric panels of circles, points, triangles, comb and saw teeth decoration on the tympanum. The drum is very early and perhaps even ancient and is without the later frogs etc. seen on the drums of the Karen tribe. 2 handles in each side.

Size: 53 cm. wide and 47 cm. wide over the tympanum only...

A 9.5" signed 19th century Satsuma bowl, possibly Razan. This is a beautifully enameled piece; over a ground of raised chrysanthemums are two painted panels, one of a bijin, the other of a mountain landscape.

Condition: Very good, there is one old hairline repair to the rim, illustrated in photograph five. No other issues.

From our Japanese Collection, a large and beautiful imari charger, Meiji Period (1868-1912), one of two similar pieces we have, of scalloped-edge form with a basket of flowers in the center medallion, and panels of prunus and karakusa in the outer border, all vibrantly executed in traditional imari palette of iron-red, blue, orange, and gilt. This is a rich and gorgeous piece with great presence.

A very rare 18TH Century, QING DYNASTY IMPERIAL POWDER BLUE-ULTRAMARINE QING DYNASTY PORCELAIN BOWL with gold rim and a white interior. Excellent Condition, no chips, cracks, hairlines nor restorations! Provenance: form a Private German Antique Collection. Has black Calligraphy/Markings on the base,i.e. "DA QING YU SHAN FANG" translating to:"QING DYNASTY FOR IMPERIAL KITCHEN". Size: 11.2 cm. diameter x H. 5.5 cm.(1723-1735).

A very finely-made coin silver pastry or cake server, the handle decorated with a spray of flowers in the Aesthetic style. The blade has ornately shaped sholders and wonderful bright-cut engraving. The back of the handle has a period 3-letter monogram "MSS" and is marked "Pure Coin Pat. App. For". The retailer's mark is "Hutchinson & Connell".

A very rare Yuan - Ming dynasty longquan celadon large vase, rounded side with globular body and unglazed base, celadon vase around the belly decorated with incised peony scroll motif, lower part with vertical ribbing, the trumpet part has been cut down and covered with metal mount, covered with nice bluish green tone celadon glaze.
Vase is in good condition with cut down neck and metal mounted.
Size: 48 cm height, and with wooden stand and cover would be 63 cm height.

This is Chuya-Obi used for Edo period. In Chuya-Obi, one side is twill fabrics, and other aspects are black satin. As for this, the basics of twill fabrics are dyed with a natural indigo plant. And a thread dyed with other plant dye is interwoven. The black satin side has 2.3 places of split points. The twill fabrics side has some stains, but does not stand out. There is no damage on the plane of twill fabrics. Size 384cmx 32.5cm (151.8 "x 12.7")

From our Japanese Collection, a good kutani baluster-shaped jar and cover, Meiji Period (1868-1912), executed in traditional kutani palette of iron-red, green, yellow, and gilt highlights, depicting a continuous scene of figures gathered around the circumference of the piece. A small but charming example of genuine 19th century kutani.

A very large pair of hardwood transom / temple architectural elements, elaborately carved with charming motifs of squirrels eating from grape vines. The carvings are deeply recessed with raised outside edges of a scrolling form. Realistic grape vines and leaves continue along the underside of each transom. Very heavy. (pictured with a tansu for scale. not included)

An antique Japanese Choba (merchant) Tansu, constructed of hinoki (cypress) natural finish wood. With hand-forged iron hardware and plates. The Choba has iron handles, lock plates, a pair of sliding doors and three drawers in the middle, a pair of sliding doors with slats at the bottom, and a corner bottom safe box with three drawers inside and a small secret drawer.

Date: Meiji Period (1868 - 1912)

An Arita blue & white porcelain dish decorated with a pavilion and poetry, an equestrian and servant in the foreground. The dish is moulded with a shallow ‘rinka’ edge. The back is plain and has three spur marks within the foot-rim.

An identical dish is illustrated in the Shibata Collection Vol.4, #303 where it is dated to 1770~1800.

Approximately 18 cm diameter. The dish has some light wear from normal use, plate stacking for example, but is otherwise in fine condition...

A large deep bowl made for the Japanese domestic market painted with a “kotobuki” longevity shou character ground in iron red, gold and underglaze blue inset with three ogee lobed reserves with Aoi or Shuro mon within a karakusa style vine arabesque. Framed by bands of stylised Lotus and Jui (ruyi). The well of the bowl is decorated with Peonies...

Ceramic Dish, Khalong kilns, North-Central Thailand, ca.14th-16th C. Underglaze iron design of chrysanthemums. (This pattern is actually refered to as "Black Crow" in Thailand, but resembles chrysanthemum patterns.) H.2"(5cm) x Dia.8.5"(21.5cm.) Excellent condition, with wooden box.

We have a particular interest in beautiful old Raku tea bowls and spend quite a bit of time searching for exceptional examples to include in our gallery. Here we see a beautiful work that appears to be at least 200 years old and likely much older. On the side can be seen the typical “hasami no ato” (tongs mark) and along the base on both the inside and the outside are impressed lines, formed during the firing process, that I have seen only a few times before and only on very old ...

The two Famille Jaune sweetmeat dishes decorated on the interior with branches of a blossoming plum tree. Main colors are the yellow and green enamels, details are in black thin lines.
