This marked Tong Zhi Period (1862~1874) Famille-Rose ribbed rice bowl is 2 ¼ inches tall and 4 ¾ inches in diameter. It depicts two boys from good families playing in a garden. One is feeding a bird; the other is watching two flying bats. The bird, magpie and bat represent good luck in Chinese custom. The workmanship is precise and refined. It is in great condition.

19th century boxwood netsuke of a theatrical mask of Hyottoko (perplexed peasant) leaning against a small drum. Clever design, nice carving, nicely incised wood grain on the body of the drum, nails on the drum are inlaid with ivory or bone. Nice wear and patina, pleasant warm staining. Signed KYOKUSEN on the back - the artist is listed in NETSUKE & INRO ARTISTS AND HOW TO READ THEIR SIGNATURES by George Lazarnick, p. 686. Length 1 1/4 inches.

Chinese Longquan Celadon lotus bowl, Song dynasty. 13 cm diameter. There is four small chipped to the rim. (please see on the pictures)

This unusual hat stand is made of 2 very thin interlocking pieces which were black lacquered and painted with a floral and peach motif.

A hand painted cloth banner decorated with imagery by various artists including the Nanga School literati artists Tanomura Chokunyu (1814-1907) and Nakanishi Koseki (1807-1884) as well as Tanaka Koha of the Kagetsuan School of Sencha and Confucian scholar Goto Shoin (1797-1864) and Hirose Kyokuso (1807-1863) who were two of the most important followers of Rai Sanyo. Striking antique Siam mid to late 19th. century Ayutthaya Kampheng head of Buddha Sakyamuni (The Awakened One). His face with serene expression, closed eyes, aquiline nose, smiling lips and elongated earlobes with earrings.

The head is hollow inside and mounted on a wood base. It has a weight of almost 6 kg. No repairs, good condition.

An interesting an artful Chinese glazed pottery figure of an Equatian dignitairy dating to the Wei-Sui period - 386-618 AD.

He is dressed in a robe and wears a hat, sitting as if the horse has just being brought to a halt. wiht a determined expression on his face.

Rare antique Japanese choba tansu made of keyaki (elm) wood with beautiful grain. Two full width drawers, one on top and one on the bottom. 18th century Indian bronze votive sculpture of dancing Krishna playing a flute, cast in the State of Orissa. This avatar of Vishnu playing flute for gopis is known as Krishna Venugopala (as always in this image, flute was cast separately, and is missing). Excellent casting and detailing (see his eyes inlaid with silver), wonderful face, beautiful patina, very pleasant feel of age to the sculpture. Height 5 7/8 inches.
