An antique Japanese Tansu chest made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. Original hand forged iron hardware with an age old replacement lock on the bottom drawer. Hirute style drawer handles. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery with hardened wooden nails. With two side Warabite carrying handles.

Used by a merchant to store valuable small items and money.

An impressive bronze rain drum, weighing 16 kilograms, Dong Son culture, 1st. millenium AD.

A fine Heger 1 type bronze drum with a 12 ray star in the center and concentric panels of circles, points, triangles, comb and saw teeth decoration on the tympanum. The drum is very early and perhaps even ancient and is without the later frogs etc. seen on the drums of the Karen tribe. 2 handles in each side.

Size: 53 cm. wide and 47 cm. wide over the tympanum only...

Beautifully aged Antique Japanese Zushi (portable shrine) black lacquered wood with mokko shaped roof. Shrine models a gilt interior with the statue of sitting Buddha. The double doors decorated with crests of the Samurai Clan, Hosogawa in gilt metal work.

A very important and lovely larger Thai bronze buddha, 13th.-15th. century AD.

Beautiful archaic features of his crowned head, seated in Dhyana mudra wearing jewellery; On a U-shaped pointy throne.

Just a wonderful archaeological bronze figure of the finest early style, really a gem. It's mounted in a slightly elavated manor on a square plint, professionally made with a metal rod in the center.

Another fine example from our personal collection of animal hooked rugs, this one featuring an elephant posed on grass with fruited tree branches descending from the top of the rug.

The rug has a felt border, easily detached if so desired. The condition is excellent, with good colors and some slight scattered wear to the border. The size is 40" by 30".

Etruscan bowl of shallow form with two vertical ribs and false cord decoration on the inward sloping rim. The single handle is marked with grooves. Set on a high flared foot.

Antique Japanese ceramic chawan (tea bowl) by the famous artist Otagaki Rengetsu (1791-1875) with a cream crackle glaze and bare foot. The sides of the bowl are inscribed with poetic calligraphy. Includes its own tomobako. Size: 2.5" H x 6" W (entire box) 4.5" x 6.5" x 6.5"

The netsuke is made in the shape of a matchlock pistol. It is composed of different material such as wood, brass, and iron. Handmade during the Meiji period for the European market. Mounted on a custom iron stand.

Antique Japanese kogo box (for incense). Round in form and made of lacquered wood. Decorated with a scene of a garden gate and a wild thicket of grasses, vines and flowers under a full moon. The gate and flora are made with maki-e lacquer and shell inlay while the full moon is made of silver. The interior and bottom of the box is covered with gold nishiji on a black lacquer ground.

Age: Meiji Period (1868-1912)

Dimensions: 3" wide x 1 5/8" high

This is a lovely ivory rabbit walking stick. He has brown glass eyes and a gold plate collar. Very nice carving detail on his face with the fur and whiskers. He also wears a carved bow tie at the base of his neck. This stick measures 36" x 4.5" x 1". The handle/head measures 1.75" x 4.5" x 1". The collar measures .75" and the ferrule 1".

Fine hand-modeled amphora with ribs on either side of the belly. False cord decoration impressed on the ribs and at the join to the straight neck.
The handles span from the slightly flared mouth to the shoulder. They show notches on top and impressed triangles on the outside.

Fine Tall Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Horse & Rider with Oxford TL Test

This fine and elegant pottery model of a horse and rider was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been "cold painted" in various coloured pigments. The horse stands alert with its head turned a little to its left.
