A Chinese snuff bottle made of snowflake glass, with red overlay. Both sides with a carved and engraved chilong-dragon. The stopper is made from green glass and a bone spoon. Condition: the stopper eventually not original, traces of usage, bottle inside with some snuff residue. Dimension: c. 8.3 cm high.

A large mounted carved Chinese Fu-dog with child and a ball. Carved architectural elements are often used in Taoist and Confucian temples. An antique Japanese Kansai Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. Beautiful original Urushi lacquer finish and hand made iron fittings including the Warabite handles. Sliding doors hide a spacious area that was used to store business books and records while the 11 drawers held all things suitable for a merchant e.g. writing brushes, inkstone, receipts, valuables and money.

Antique Japanese storage tansu made with all keyaki (elm) wood on the front, sugi (cryptomeria) wood on the top and sides. The upper portion of the tansu has a large compartment opened by sliding panels with wide, horizontal slats. The lower portion has 5 drawers of various sizes. Square drawer pulls are made of iron. Original translucent, deep reddish lacquer finish. This tansu was most likely made to seat into the wall of a house...

Antique Japanese pair of shakudo bronze vases, with very fine inlay of mixed metal, gold, and silver, design of small birds flying through branches which bear autumn leaves and gold vines with flowers and splashes of red. Finely chased and rendered in low relief creating a natural continuous scene of birds and flowers theme.

Fantastic pottery double-handled urn decorated in an underglaze blue floral transfer and clobbered with overglaze iron red, yellow and purple pigments. The effect is much like chintz china, but with stronger coloring. The bottom bears the mark used by Cauldon Potteries from 1905 to 1920. The form and size of this vase, combined with its rich coloring, makes for a truly stunning piece of Staffordshire pottery.

Offered is this rare New England Glass Company's 'Fruit on Latticinio' paperweght, made around 1849 by Francois Pierre (after he left Baccarat Company and joined NEGC). The paperweight is approximately 2 1/2 inches wide and 1 5/8 inches tall. Polished pontil. It is in good condition - there is the expected, age-appropriate wear to the base of the paperweight (see 5th picture) and a few fabrication-holes (cannot be felt from the outside) inside the paperweight (see 3rd picture)...

This is one of the best Shounai-Noren used in Shonai, Yamagata area for Edo period. As for the hemp of this item, a delicate thread spun by hand is used. The pattern is full of Chadougu which was popular in Shikoku. Chadougu is an instrument used at tea ceremony. The Chadougu design reached shounai by a goods-carrying merchant ship. The artist Fujita displayed cloth full of Chadougu in the atelier of Japan. There was the picture near a great painter without sense of incongruity...

This nikuchi, or seal paste box, was created by one of the very few Imperial Court Artists of late Meiji and bears an attractive and subtle design etched on the cover. Seal paste boxes are used to hold the red ink paste used for endorsing official documents and works of art by way of an in-kan (official seal)...

19th century cast iron figure of an angel raising a laurel wreath above her head and holding a ship's anchor. Obviously intended as a symbol of the wishes for a sailor's safe return from the sea, the plaque was probably used to decorate the wall of a sailor's home in an Atlantic coast seaport.

19th century Japanese bronze netsuke representing a Noh theater mask of Buaku used for demonic roles such as Kaminari, Emma-O or any nameless demon or scary devil. Chinese Ming Dynasty Painted Pottery Mandarin Tile

This attractive pottery tile depicting a mandarin (Chinese official) was made during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). It is made from a dense, quite highly-fired grey pottery. This is a very attractive and richly decorated Japanese cloisonne vase. At fist glance one would think it was made by Namikawa Yasuyuki because of the mottled colors and glow to the enamel. There are both silver and gold wires used in the designs. It is not signed but it is so similar to a Namikawa piece that we believe it was made by Shibata, his student. It stands 6 inches tall and is quite heavy because of the thick enamel. The vase may have had a lid at one time but I can't say for certain....
