A beautifully hand-crafted Shino ware chawan with crackled glaze by Kato Gorohachi (?-1900). The potter signature is carved on the bottom. Probably inspired by early Korean Ido examples, the bowl perfectly lies in hands giving strong Wabi feel.
There is not much information available about this Meiji potter even in Japan and his birth year is unknown.
He worked in the Hinno kiln of Aichi Prefecture in late 19 century.

A set of three 19th century Indian jeweler's moulds, made of bronze, each one representing a Hindu deity. The first one shows a female deity, maybe Sarasvati, with four arms, holding her four attributes in her hands, riding a horse and surrounded by foliage. An inscription is incised at the back of the mould. Height: 6.3 cm. The second mould shows god Khandoba (a form of Shiva), holding a sword, riding a horse together with his wife, and accompanied by a dog running under the horse...

This marked, rare, fish decorated bowl comes from an old German colletion. The condition of the glaze of the bowl is so perfect and glossy that it simply is impossible that this bowl is an excavated piece. The glaze of this bowl is so much better than the glaze of excavated pieces so that this bowl must be an rare unearthed piece which already in very early times - maybe hundreds of years ago - came to Europe. Chinese Qing dynasty Nanking ware bowl decorated around the center in underglaze blue with figures in a landscape setting of mountains, trees, traditional huts, and boats on a lake. The flaring top rim and base have brown incised bands that are characteristic of brown etched wares produced between 1880 and 1920. Extremely rare. Excellently potted porcelain body with a lipped everted rim, covered with an excellent Celadon-coloured glaze. The base unglazed. Yue ware ( Yueyao ) Tang Dynasty - Five Dynasties ( 10th. century ). Diameter: 14,4 cm. H : 8,3 cm. Condition: One crack and one filled "split-off" to the inside of the rim ( please see the enlargement ). Excellent glaze condition. The body despite the short crack, still with a very nice "ping-tone" when tapped.

Cotton futonji with katazome (stencil-resist-dye) whose motif is paulownia flower but the design looks more western painting rather than traditionl katazome paulownia flower. Made of hand-spun cotton and dyed with vegetable indigo and partly sumi (ink) is used in the plant. Generally in good condition but has some mending patches and slightly indigo faded panels. An Emil Puirforcat French first standard (.950) silver round box with a gold washed interior. The surface of the exterior covered with engine turning and engraved wreaths punctuated with blossoms. 3 3/8 inches (8.5 cm) diameter and 1 inch (2.5 cm) tall. Weight approx. 154 grams.

Eight petal Chinese Tang dynasty (618-907) foliate form bronze mirror with central pierced knob and four relief characters reading “long life, riches, and honor” (chang ming fu gui). 7 1/4” diameter. Good condition overall with typical wear and extensive patina. From the estate of Gerhard Lohmeier, a Diplomat at the German Embassy in Beijing from 1985 to 1989.

A magnificent set of five wooden bowls lacquered red with a net design enclosed in the original wooden box titled Shu-nuri Amime Hashiaraiwan dating from the first half of the 20th century. Excluding the lid each is 7.5 cm (3 inches) tall, roughly the same diameter at the rim, and all are in excellent condition. Repeated use of lacquer tends to see the black acquire a brown tinge. These remain jet black, and it is likely they have been virtually unused for the better part of a century...

A splendid antique Chinese agate snuff bottle with a motif of a fish jumping out of the water. The carving is done where the artist used the distinct colorations of the stone emphasizing the fish. Age: 20th century Size: Length 2.25" Width 1.25" Height 0.75"

18C Chinese Yongzheng Export Iron Red Boy Goat Cup and Saucer The cup and saucer are painted in iron red heightened with gilt. The flower-shaped saucer and cup are decorated with a boy playing with goats opposite a prunus branch and rockwork. The center of the cup is painted with a flower symbol. Size: Cup: 8.4 diam. 3.9 cm tall Saucer: 12.8 cm diam. Condition: Several hairlines on the saucer shown in the pictures. Cup in excellent condition.

Japanese late Meiji period bronze vase with silver inlaid bamboo decoration on the front. At the bottom of the back is the incised signature of the engraver Mitsunobu. The base reads "Kyoto Kuroda made." 6 1/8" high. Late 19th to early 20th century. Very good overall condition with a nice patina. The silver has not been polished. There is a vertical area on the back that feels slightly flattened, but is barely noticeable.

Antique Japanese bronze yatate, a pipe shaped container for the carrying of cotton saturated with calligraphy ink with a long shaft for a brush. The main component is cylindrical in shape with an inner compartment and an outer decorative area with scrolling vines and flowers. The lid has a kiri leaf design. The brush shaft has a fu dog towards the top and scrolling vines with kiri leaves running down towards the end, where it stands on an elephant's head. 20th Century Size: 4" height, 12"...

Small relief fragment in the shape of a statue of Buddha Sakyamuni, in monk's robes, in meditation posture, sitting on a lotus throne backed by an aureola. Stucco, with traces of polychrome pigments. Pakistan, Gandhara Region, Graeco-Buddhist art, 1st to 3rd century. Height: 5" (12,6 cm). The statue is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Chips in some areas, erosion, otherwise good condition.

A small thinly potted wine or tea cup delicately painted in shades of underglaze blue with traditional Chinese landscape scenes. The cup is bound with a metal (copper) rim, apparently made to cover a burst glaze bubble. On the base is a four character shop mark which reads "Shun Li Kun Ji". The makers mark was in use during the late Qing / early Republic period so we assume that this item was made during the late 19th or early 20th Century. Condition - very good - no damages and no restoration. ...
