An exquisite Japanese gold lacquer Inro of boat scene with five compartments. The inside compartments are covered with dense nashiji lacquer (fine gold flecks). Underneath the bottom compartment is the artist's signature, KAJIKAWA, with red chop. Inro (seal basket) are small decorative containers that hang from the waist. They originate at the end of the 16th century and were worn by men to hold seals and herbal or other medicines...

Two extremely rare and very attractive figurines from the Manteno culture: An oval shaped vessel with a human face and crossed legs of an animal in front. The face and the mouth of the vessel are framed by dashed lines and a stylized, sitting man with oversized head, 1000-1500 AD.

Antique Japanese storage tansu made with all keyaki (elm) wood on the front, sugi (cryptomeria) wood on the top and sides. The upper portion of the tansu has a large compartment opened by sliding panels with wide, horizontal slats. The lower portion has 5 drawers of various sizes. Square drawer pulls are made of iron. Original translucent, deep reddish lacquer finish. This tansu was most likely made to seat into the wall of a house...

This is a hand sewn and hand quilted antique doll quilt circa 1850-60. It is random and naïve and very pleasing to the eye. It has been professionally mounted. I love hanging these doll quilts on fronts and backs of doors. (I have run out of wall space!) This one is 16" by 16" and mounted 18" by 18".

Circa early 1800's copper Dutch coal bucket with tight fitting lid and brass claw feet. These canisters were used for remaining hot coals. The lid fit tightly; thus, lacking oxygen the coals were extinguished. Measures about 16.5 inches high. Excellent antique condition.

According to a legend, Kanzan and his friend Jittoku, who was a kitchen worker at the nearby Guoqing Temple, talked nonsensical language, which some took as a sign of them being enlightened...

This is a page from the rare Burmese Buddhist Sutra manuscript called the the KAMMAVACA. The pages of these religious sutras were made from a thin strip of bamboo covered with cloth (frequently monks robes) which was thickly coated with red lacquer and gold leaf decoration.
