An early to mid 19th century turned yew (or fruit) wood covered gaming cup with 9 hand carved and painted bone die c1820-50. The box retains some of its original red stain and it measures 2-1/8" tall and 1-1/4" across the top. Offered is an absolutely fabulous group of early 1900, Merck & Co., amber glass, dispensing pharmacy bottles. Each bottle measures 5.5 inches tall, sports a ground glass stopper and comes with 2 labels. Many of the bottles have contents and are in undamaged condition. Since the 1720's, the mineral, found mostly in Turkey, has been used in the fashioning of ornately carved smoking pipes. The mineral has been described as soft enough to carve yet hard enough to polish. The fad for such smoking implements reached a peak in Victorian times...

This knife would only be used on the first cutting of the season and as with most all of the rice cultivators in Asia there is a great deal of ritual and importance given to this act, regardless of the religion i.e. Buddhist, animist, Hindu etc. The animal bone handle has a wonderful original patina and the blade is still quite sharp.
