Unusual antique northern Thai ceremonial drum, 19th Century, gilt wood with inlaid coloured mirror pieces, top surface of animal skin, size: H. 80cm x 20cm diameter, base shows repair

Rare ceremonial rice cutter from the Karen people (this particular one is from Northern Thailand). This knife would only be used on the first cutting of the season and as with most all of the rice cultivators in Asia there is a great deal of ritual and importance given to this act, regardless of the religion i.e. Buddhist, animist, Hindu etc. The animal bone handle has a wonderful original patina and the blade is still quite sharp. English Victorian period hand painted Tole Inkwell, 2 1/4" high, 3" wide-maximum measurement-Hexagonal point to point, with removable original clear glass ink well fit inside the hole, with dome shape hinged top. Hand painted floral decoration in gold. One(1) slight dent 3/8" x 1/4" wide on the top.
