Antique Pre-Columbian Mayan circa 500 to 900 A.D. terracotta head fragment adorned with one ear spool.

CONDITION: The item shows signs of age and use with patina and earthen deposits. It is also chipped.

MEASUREMENTS: Height: 6.4 cm (2 1/2 in).

PROVENANCE: The object came from a private Canadian collection of antiques and was sold by a reputable Canadian auction house in the 1980s.

Charming and unique mate cup, South American, likely Argentina, early 20th century or late 19th century, unmarked. Measures just under 5" high, and is roughly 2 1/2" wide, with lid attached by a chain. The lid has a hole for insertion of bombilla. Ovoid form, with etched designs in bands, simple foliate and geometric designs, with textured backgrounds. The feet are delightful, three human legs with boots, a very unusual base. It sits slighlty askew, and has visible dents in body and on lid...

An incredible Veraguas gold figural pendant biting a double-headed snake, Costa Rica, Circa 500-1000 A.D., height 1 13/16 inches (4.6 cm); 14 karat pure gold; especially beautiful solid yellow gold, 4.81 dwt., original loop for suspension. This is a perfect specimen. A 10+. Provenance: Art Market, Canal Zone, Panama. This Tunjo is 5 1/2" long. Tunjos are from the Musica culture, 900AD-1500AD. This culture inhabited the high plateau in the area of modern Bogota. Most Tunjos that survived are made from gold or tumbaga. Obviously, many were made from bone, but being an organic material, very few bone ones have survived. In fact, this is the only one I have ever seen. I have had several gold Tunjos and they are unique and beautiful and in much demand. Needless to say, bone Tunjos are extremely rare.

An antique ceramic figure from the Jama-Coaque culture of present-day Ecuador, dating back to 300 BC - 400 AD, is a remarkable pre-Columbian artifact.

This impressive boxlike purse was hand beaded and constructed as a souvenir by a member of the Iroquois nation at the turn of the century. The beadwork — all of it intact — tells the story: the maker beaded the words and numerals ‘Box,’ ‘Montreal’ and ‘1907’ on the top, front and back. There are sunburst-like designs on each side, and the handle is made of two twisted strands of clear beads; three groups of looped strands dangle from the bottom...

Rare Navajo Rocker Engraved Profile Spoon. Circa 1885-90. Totally rocker engraved, no stampwork. Interesting depiction of a Navajo man or woman in the bowl with hat and feathers. 5 1/2 inches in length. 1 1/8 x 1 1/4 inches bowl size. Incised file marks on the handle. A masterpiece of Navajo silversmithing.
