The beige ground has woven patterns of flowers and butterflies on which different kind of flowers and large butterflies in multicolored silk floss are embroidered. Borders in dark blue bands with embroidered flowers; cuffs in yellow silk ground with embroidered Immortals in garden scenes. Lining in light blue silk. Central frontal opening. Calf-length type: H. 110 cm; W. 144 cm. Qing, 19th cent. Condition: good.

1900's Chinese Pink Silk Embroidered Forbidden Stitches Lady's Robe

It is 53.1 inches (135 cm) from sleeve to sleeve, 27.2 inches (69 cm) armpit to armpit, and 26.8 inches (68 cm) collar to hem.

It has frayed silk, stains, tears at the collar, sleeves, and inside, discoloration, and wears (as seen in the photos).

There have been decorative textiles sewn into squares or rectangular shapes since the Edo period in Japan. The small squares are made for tea ceremonies; the medium to larger sized ones (called fukusa) are used to cover seasonal and ceremonial gifts. This old Chinese panel was acquired in Japan mixing into our fukusa collection.

This 19th Century traditional Han Chinese robe would have been used for winter wear. It uses dark black satin weave silk fabric, and has very wide cuffs with floral embroidery and the shape is trimmed out with a floral silk ribbon. The coat has its original buttons and fabric loop closures...and has original lining. Excellent condition

The coverlet is made in two panels and measures 54" x 77". The linen backing has been removed showing only border remnants. The condition is near mint with minor fading of the background color...

Embroidered using brick stitch this badge is has a fret background,key border and is decorated with bats, turtles and flowers. Curiously the sun is missing but the badge is old and still has the remnants of a few threads which were used to sew it to the front of the robe.
