A large Persian book cover made of papier-mâché with leather-binding. Both sides hand-painted in polychrome gouache and gold under lacquered varnish. The outsides showing a dignitary with consort on a throne surrounded by musicians and a festival with horsemen, musicians and veiled women, both depictions framed by inscriptions. The interior with scrolls of tendrils in gold on red ground. Condition: some craquelure, flaking and wear, traces of age, some retouchings...
Antique 18th-19th century ottoman Islamic brass Qibla indicator and sundial, of round form, and affix with suspension ring. The face engraved with toponyms in Arabic and zodiac symbols. The sundial component is mounted with the folded triangle - form gnomen and a swiveling pin.
This compass and sundial was used by the Muslim faithful to locate qibla, or sacred direction towards the Ka'aba in Mecca for sholat (prayers)...

Large antique late 18th century Islamic Indo-Persian steel shield Separ-Dhal of a circular convex form. This shield is made from a single piece of thick solid steel that has been hand-hammered. The inside of the shield shows visible hammer marks, while the exterior surface is perfectly smooth. Showing a quranic calligraphy bordered by a band of scrolling saz and flowerheads. Condition: fine, little faded, minimally stained.
