Chinese hardwood painting table. The whole body, except for the top, is carved in relief with lingzhi fungus. The waist, the apron, and the connecting joints are also decorated. The legs are cabriole with block carved hoof feet.

DESCRIPTION: A fine red and gilt Chinese scholar's ink cake in circular form with the front and back molded in relief in the form of a foo dog (shi shi) with tightly curled mane. Both the front and back have raised Chinese characters in relief. Excellent condition in original box, and dating from the first quarter of the 20th C. or earlier. DIMENSIONS: 2 ¾” diameter (7 cm).

Authentic Japanese Edo period woodblock print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861) depicting two actors in a kabuki play published by Enshuya Hikobei in 1852. The artist’s signature “Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi ga” and Yoshi Kiri seal are at the lower left with the seal of the publisher beside it. This print is possibly a panel from a triptych. Very rare lacquered original Han ear cup with a surface decorated in red and black lacquer in scrolling patterns and abstract motifs painted on the ears. Size: L. 20cm. W. 15.5cm. H. 6cm. Early 19th century ebony netsuke of a shishi (Buddhist lion) sitting foursquare on a base, its head turned to the right. Like any dark object does not photograph well. Wonderful netsuke carved with confidence and great detail - see its alert face, bushy tail, well defined ribs and paws. Wonderful sense of volume, beautiful lustre unique to ebony. Height 1 5/16 inches.

Chinese rock crystal scholar's brush washer. Carved into the form of a large heavenly peach with twisting leaves and branches bearing smaller peaches. A small monkey is carved hanging onto the edge of the large peach, in a playful frog like pose. The reticulated carved brush washer rests on two small carved peaches as the feet.

Japanese “Gosho Ningyo” doll of a plump male child in a kneeling position holding a colorfully painted rooster in his right arm. The boy is wearing a fabric bib with painted designs that has 2 ties in the back. He wears a black crinkled eboshi hat that’s secured by a thin rope that is tied in a bow under the chin. The eyes, eyebrows, and hair accents are painted in black while the pursed lips are accented in red...

19th century coral ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) of simple barrel shape. True coral of beautiful deep red natural color (not stained), nice patina on the surface. Height 3/8 inches.

The stone has a lustrous patina and has a very dramatic ‘splash’ of red on both sides. It has never been carved with a designation and the base has now a shallow flake as a result of an impact on the edge, with a little powdery material showing. Further along there is a tiny bruise to the edge. These could be taken out by reducing the length by 0.4cm. Personally the chip does not worry me...
