An antique Japanese bamboo Ikebana basket in a free-form nest-like shape created using multi-layered 3/4" wide strips interwoven with rope made of woven bamboo. The voluminous handle was created using interwoven bamboo rope in an abstract style. Patina is in a natural smoke and chestnut color. Flat foot with a three star patterned base. Unsigned. It comes with a cylindrical metal water and flower vessel.

Circa 1820 English, this charming tortoise shell sewing box having zig zag patterned string inlay can also be used as a jewelry box. The interior has fitted tray which still has its original compartment lids and the tray removes to reveal another compartment. The body is woven with multiple layered bamboo strips in a horizontal pattern which gives strength and tenacity to the piece as well as the symbolic nature of bamboo. The base is a bamboo rope foot with a star patterned bottom. Natural soot patina contrasted against chestnut brown highlights.

A Japanese porcelain plate decorated with a dignitary beneath a parasol, attended by his servant, in a garden. The cavetto is unusually decorated with a continuous landscape, a device not often encountered on Arita porcelain. The use of linear shading is reminiscent of Chinese “Master of the Rocks” style.
