Early 19th century boxwood netsuke of a seated inebriated oni with a sake cup in one hand, and the other raised to his head indicating a hangover. Strong early carving, great face, inlaid pupils and horns, powerful muscular limbs. Himotoshi is formed by his legs, very good patina. Height 2 inches.

An antique Japanese low Mizuya Tansu (kitchen chest) made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Keyaki (Zelkova) woods. Original hand forged iron hardware with Warabite style handles. 2 Sliding doors behind which a split level shelf allows for abundant storage. Side support slats provide strength and visual design. 4 side by side drawers below provide additional storage.

For some reason flies are not common in netsuke. This porcelain dresser tray was produced in France by Jean Pouyat Limoges around 1914. It has an underglaze mark and an overglaze mark indicating that the porcelain and decoration are from that factory. The tray measures 12 1/2 inches long and 10 1/2 inches wide. The border has an irregular shape so that the length and width are calculated to the best of our ability. The tray was created in the art nouveau style with flowing lines in decoration and shape...

Antique Chinese porcelain brush washer. Semi-conical form with doucai decoration of swirling clouds. Very fine lines with subtle overglaze colors on a white ground. The doucai technique allows for controlled details and vibrant colors as the outlines are first painted on as a blue underglaze and then fired. After this step, the colors are applied using lovely enamel overglazes and the object is fired again at a lower temperature...
