Sugimoto Sadamitsu (b. 1935) is one of the most important Shigaraki potters alive today and continues to create master works into his old age. Originally a resident of Tokyo, at the age of 33 he moved to Shigaraki and started creating high-quality tea-ware implements, most notably, fine tea bowls in the style of early Raku masters...

Wonderful medium-sized crater bowl, thinly potted of black clay and with glossy black glaze pitted with craters for volcanic moon-like effect, Signed Lovera; James Lovera (American, 1920-2015) modernist potter. Teacher at San Jose State University. James Lovera exhibited at the Crocker Museum in Sacramento in 2006: "Craters of Fire: Ceramics by James Lovera". With original inventory tag.

Painstakingly built by small bits of clay added to core, the piece is than burnt in the autumn in the nearby fields under a stack of rice straw. He is carefully checking the process as the sculptures must not get over burned, they have to get the right, natural, earthy ash color that change for each piece of artwork. HIDA HIDA

Ceramic work formed with paper coated with mad and burnt by me myself, Fumie Nishimura. ‘Hida Hida’ is a perticular Japanese onomatopoeia and would be somehow translated to “So frilled” in English. H 4 x W 10.5 x D 12cm (1.57 x 4.13 x 4.72in). Very delicate and fragile piece so that some parts will be chipped, though I'll try my best to pack it very carefully...

Generous Hagi chawan with a variety of colors infused within the white based glaze on a rich iron clay body by veteran potter, Udagawa Seikoku. This chawan is in great condition, measures 12.5 x 9cm and comes complete with its original signed wood box.

Japanese 20-21st century large ceramic vase by Ito Shin. Ito Shin was born in Chiba, Japan in 1952 and has lived in worked in Mashiko in Tochigi Prefecture. He studied under KIKUCHI AKIRA, another Mashiko artist. He is a member of the DENTOKOGEIKAI, or traditional arts guild and also the Japan Ceramics Exhibition and has been selected to exhibit in these shows since 1977. Signed by artist on bottom. A modern, tokkuri-shaped vase of heavily thrown Shino-ware with thick white, partly covering, glazed over which are powerful, brown splashes. The body with raised tapering bands that turn clock-wise. An interesting and modern vase of raw, hard-fired clay with natural fire pattern by Terada Teppei (b. 1975). The gaping, irregular sprout stricking outline some sort of volcanic vent. Shaped as a bamboo root, it is one of the “Carbon trapped” series. Signed on the bottom: Fe (Teppei’s signature on his carbon-fired pieces). At nearly 13" tall, this large Persian blue style glazed vase cuts a great figure flanked by bold and detailed brushed of owls rendered within medallions and further detailed with patterns of decoration and faint gold accents to complete the piece. The full form is finished off with an elegant and purposeful neck that adds to the vertical nature of the vase without taking anything away from the presented brushwork and design under this attractive glaze.
