An interesting modern water dropper (suiteki ) for ink painting of sculptured form with a rough Bizen feel to it. The maker name Shozo impressed on the bottom and inscribed tomobako storage box. Water droppers are part of a scholar’s painting tools.

Ceramic work formed with paper coated with mad and burnt by me myself, Fumie Nishimura. ‘Hida Hida’ is a perticular Japanese onomatopoeia and would be somehow translated to “So frilled” in English.

Large, robust Madara-Karatsu mizusashi with undulating ribs around the circumference of the pot made by Karatsu specialist, Kojima Yoshiaki. In excellent condition with its original signed box, this mizusashi measures 22 x 18cm.
There is a nearly identical example of a mizusashi by Kojima Yoshiaki in the book, MODERN JAPANESE CERAMICS, pg.75, no.54.

A beautiful vessel / seashell Kara of organic shape with a sideways, seedpod opening in mat mottled turquoise glaze producing a feeling of underwater ambiance. The rest of outer body and the side, elongated shell is done with his usual technique of grooving the surface with needles and rubbing iron into the grooves resulting in those great dark brown and white lines. Rich Oribe influenced mizusashi with hakeme (hakame) and impressed design. In the firing, the glaze ran off the pot to form a dragonfly eye style drip. The drip makes the pot a bit uneven, but I could not bring myself to grind off the drip. The foot can easily be stabilized with the addition of two felt pads
