An incredible organic form, the delicate petals appearing to waft in some tide by Shingu Sayaka enclosed in the original signed wooden box. A closed bud on the side is lined with hundreds of tiny sharp needles in black. It is 6 x 5 x 4 inches (15 x 13 x 10 cm) and in excellent condition.

Tamadare, Shinshoku, koge and others decorate this spectacular tea bowl by Fukioka Shuhei enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Chawan and named inside Shizanro (Fuka-yama Michi or Deep Mountain Path).  This could be a reference to the five peaks which make up the rim, a traditional form codified in the mid Edo period by the Raku family of potters. It rests on a wari-kodai split foot, unusual for Iga-ware...

A large Kataguchi bowl by Living National Treasure Shimaoka Tatsuzo enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shio-yu Zogan Jomon Kataguchi and including the original exhibition invitation From New Years 1977 upon which this piece is featured.  The body has been imprinted with rope designs, a trademark of Tatsuzo’s works, and covered in salt glaze, resulti9ng in a burnished blue, giving light to the heavy form.

A black cloak is draped from the shoulders of this mysterious character lurking in the shadows of the tea room by legendary potter Higashida Shigemasa enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hikidashi-kuro Chawan. Matte over much of the surface, The dark glaze trails off near the base, revealing a startlingly white clay. The contrast is both abrupt and challenging, creating a tension most welcome on an otherwise subtle work...

Rich, almost luxuriant chawan by rising star, Tsukamoto Haruhiko (b. 1959). This lush and evocative Oribe chawan features an every changing landscape and kaleidoscope of textures and color over the well carved, faceted surface. From light and pale tones of green and blue-green, to thick pools of a rich brown-green pool of glaze in the mikomi, this chawan has something at every angle and turn of the chawan...

A superb example of Iga in a slightly flaring form by Tsujimura Kai enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Chawan.  A perfect charring descends like a waterfall from the rim on one side, sheltered by crystallized green ash on the flame scorched terracotta body.  The exverted shape allows the bowl a very comfortable fit into the palm, and the wide kodai base allows it to sit stable and firm, creating a proud silhouette.
