This bold bracelet, probably American, has a modern sensibility that belies its ca. 1890 origins. It is composed of a polished hollow sterling silver curb chain with a sterling heart-shaped padlock closure. This padlock has no key but can be opened simply by a gentle tug on the lever mechanism and a gentle push to close. The chain has no marks (though tests for sterling); the top of the padlock indicates sterling, which suggests an American origin...
A superb American silver locket and chain necklace from the Victorian era. The book chain is enhanced with three rows of lapidary-cut silver balls. The locket’s cover is decorated with an engraved scene of an egret, bamboo, reeds and a fan in the Japonaise style popular during the Aesthetic period. The interior retains the original frames on either side. The chain can be worn without the locket as a 17” necklace or, with the drop chain in place at the back, as a 19-1/4” necklace...

Victorian hinged bracelet made by Bernhard Hertz. Surprisingly modern design of two rope ends, one polished and gilt, the other appears to be twisted. This pretty and detailed pin might depict St. Catherine (patroness of young maidens and female scholars – we like her!). There is a wheel in the background (possibly a “Catherine Wheel,” but it could also just be a ship's wheel or a spinning wheel), and a flower in the foreground. Her clothing looks very Renaissance-era to us. Marked “SILVER” on the C-clasp, with an illegible maker’s mark, the metal tests as sterling, and she’s a dainty 7/8” in diameter. 2.5g...

Fit for a museum, this rare and wonderful Egyptian Revival pin has a portrait painted on porcelain. It is mounted in 800 silver and surrounded by 16 coral beads on wire. There have been some repairs [not visible from the front] as is so common in jewelry repaired in the 19th century. 1 1/4" diameter. Circa 1875.
An antique silver - most probably sterling - watch fob with original chain and dog clip, this sweet little find is, I believe, from the late Victorian / Edwardian period. There is nothing mundane about it either - I find the basketweave ribbon that runs the fob's perimeter at the waist eye-catching as well as the wire-work above it. Both elements enhance the orb's sculpturality which is, of course, underscored by oxidation and patina...
This classic sterling silver 19th-century bangle is decorated with an applied buckle and belt motif that features engraved leaves on a scored background. There is an engraved leaf on each side of the buckle decoration; the back is undecorated and exhibits a minor dent. The tongue and groove clasp is secure and the hinge is in excellent condition. The inside is marked only ‘Sterling Silver.’ The bracelet measures nearly ¾ inch wide, with an internal circumference of a little over 6 ½ inches...
A Victorian Aesthetic sterling & 2 colour gold brooch. This fine quality Victorian period round engraved sterling brooch has applied engraved leaves in pink and green gold and it dates to the 1875-85 era. The textured and engraved leaves in gold are applied sections of sheet gold, and this pin closes with a c-clasp...
An Aesthetic sterling pin with green & pink gold circa 1870s. This vintage and opulent Aesthetic Movement sterling brooch has inlaid rose and green gold. This 1-3/8" x 1-1/8" pin has a notched and ball border with a hand-engraved floral interior featuring rose gold flowers and green gold leaves. It has the original c-clasp. It is unmarked (but tested) and is guaranteed to be silver...
Carved Shell Cameo set in a silver frame with a gold colored rope twist accent. The frame is marked only 800 in an oval and is most likely Italian. The carving is excellent, with highlights of different colors left in the hair. The frame has a pin closure and a moveable bail so it can be worn as a pin or a pendant. The profile of the woman and mark on the frame suggests Victorian era of 1875 - 1880's. Condition is excellent.
