Fine decorative 19th century engraving print, titled at bottom margin "Philadelphia from Belmont (WEST PARK)", by English-born artist ROBERT HINSHELWOOD (1812-1879). Hinshelwood came to the United States in 1835 as a young man and pursued his art skills, in both painting and engraving. In this case he seems to have engraved after his own original painting---a fairly rare skill combination...

Contemporary little drawing of what I believe is Pirates Alley in New Orleans' Vieux Carre, 5 1/4" by 3 1/2" inside the mats, 10" by 8 1/4" as framed (no glass, but perfect condition). The signature at bottom appears to be "FERRELL" in capital letters. This is likely a piece produced for the tourist trade, or it's by a talented visitor who wanted to capture this famous scene on paper.

A colorful print "Share Chanukah with the Children of Israel", pencil signed at lower right margin and numbered 46/150 at lower left, by the eastern Europe-born, Jewish-American artist CHAIM GROSS (1904-1991). The work measures 22" square (23 1/4" square in metal frame with detail-dulling non-glare style glass). Gross was well known for his "direct carving" sculpture in wood and stone, and began experimenting with printmaking as far back as 1929...

A primitive, circa 1880's oil on gray board landscape painting in the Hudson River style, with trees, water, and tiny figures completing the view. Measurements are 18 3/4" by 24 1/2", unframed. There is no signature. The board is slightly warped from old moisture exposure, which caused paint instability/flaking/losses at top couple of inches, as shown, and cracking at lower right. There are also a few light abrasions as shown.

Oil on masonite painting of grapes, apples and pitcher/plate on a table top, 16" by 20" (20" by 24" in oak frame), signed at lower right and again on reverse in pencil by California artist Marion Ellison (1898-1997). Old horizontal format landscape, oil on board, featuring trees, a creek or lake, the only sign of man a picket fence near the group of trees at center, signed at lower left "Ferguson". The painting likely dates to about 1925 or 1930. Measurements are 14 1/2" by 25" (19" by 32 1/2" in frame that dates to about 1965). There is stable authentically old "alligatoring" of the paint (a crackling pattern related to how quickly the paint dried)...

Impressionist small contemporary painting of a knoll in sunlight and shadow, 8" by 10", unframed, unsigned. This is a quickly executed work, almost a sketch in oil, by an anonymous but skilled artist. It is in excellent condition. The regular size would facilitate buying a suitable frame at a modest price.

Pencil signed, numbered limited edition print, 18" by 21 1/2" inside the mat, (25" by 28 3/4" as framed), titled "Pareja con Kiva" ("Couple with Kiva") by noted Arizona-based artist AMADO MAURILLO PENA. Pena is known for his Southwestern genre themes, dealing with the Native American and the land upon which he lives. See the web for much more information. Watercolor on paper of a rugged seacoast with rocks and surf (presumably California, but could be a number of other places including England), 10" by 13" inside the flimsy makeshift mat (18" by 22 1/2" as framed), signed at lower right "GAY", and bearing a bonus---a pretty study on the reverse side. I do not believe this to be by any of the noted artists who share that last name of "Gay". Nevertheless it is a nicely drawn work, in excellent condition. Allow for reflections...

An interesting, folky, oil on canvas painting of a house with stone chimney set in a lush open valley, apparently set in Salinas Valley in California, signed by artist Sharon Moree Giambrocco Ebina, who wrote a long story on the back of the canvas. In that story she explains how the painting is inspired by the movie made from the John Steinbeck book "East of Eden". She also touches on the Japanese inspiration she feels, her signature incorporating the Japanese character for "valley"...

A vintage framed 1929 print featuring a peaceful homestead, evidently in Texas, as the scene is filled with bluebonnets in the spring. The framed work measures 13" by 17" and is in excellent condition. Perfect addition to your Texas home sweet home, or reminder of Texas if you are somewhere else and are homesick. Old, vintage print, somewhat resembling a chromolithograph when viewed with a magnifier, 26" by 20 1/4" as framed, the subject lush red roses and fresh green leaves. I thought that this might have been an original work but determined that it is actually a print, though a very good one. Found in California, and I lean towards this being a view in that state, though it could be elsewhere in the West or even conceivably in a place like Italy. The scene is one of tranquility and prosperity. The house would have probably dated to about 1920, but the painting is contemporary. The signature appears as possibly "Ursula Lee". It is not signed, but I think at lower left in old faint pencil it says "yellow aralia", and at bottom, very faint and barely visible, there is a lot of illegible pencil writing.
