This is a larger than typically seen watercolor of roses, in the style prevalent around the turn of the century. The work is signed at lower right corner "E. J. Fischer". Measurements are 20" by 29" and 25" by 34" in the white wood frame. There is a listing for an artist in Denmark by that name but I believe this to be an American work and unrelated to the European artist. Condition is excellent. Found in Southern California...

An unusual item...a portion of a birthday or other festive cake on a plate, make of some kind of ceramic material, hand painted very realistically and capable of "fool the eye" (trompe l'oeil), painted in colors reminiscent of the colors used by famous contemporary artist Wayne Thiebaud. Measurements are approximately 8 1/2" across the plate, by 8" in height. The artist has hand signed her name on the bottom of the plate, in black marker...

An original ink and watercolor painting of buildings and street activities in old Vienna, signed at lower right, not dated but circa 1910, by listed Austrian artist MAX NEUBAUER (1876-1920). The scene features a street car, a horse-drawn carriage, market stalls, elegant figures in period dress, children, dogs and antique buildings. At bottom is the word "Freihaus". The work measures 7 1/2" by 15 1/2" (13 1/2" by 22" in old framing, shipped without glass). Neubauer's works sell at auction in ...

PAIR of original mixed media drawings, similarly sized though not identical, one 14" by 18 3/4", the other 15" by 18 1/2", and roughly 22" by 25" as framed, one featuring the 1982 trial of notorious Atlanta child murderer Wayne Williams, the other the 1984 trial of automaker John DeLorean, each signed by the artist, DAVID ROSE (1910-2006). Rose between the early 1970's and mid 1990's became one of the century's best known courtroom artists, his skills sought after by national tv networks. Born...

Watercolor on paper drawing of a young man reading a newspaper, 11 1/2" by 15 1/4", unframed with old mat still attached, signed at lower right "B. Singer". This is a work of the noted California painter BURR SINGER (1912-1992). Singer is an important California woman artist, fine oil works bringing to the upper four figures at recent auctions. Born in St. Louis, she exhibited around the country at the 1939 World's Fair in San Francisco, after studying at the Art Students League in New York and ...
All Items : Fine Art : Paintings : Watercolor : Pre 1837 VR item #1421158 (stock #JB04812)
A detailed watercolor painting on paper, 8" by 10" (13" by 15" in interesting old faux-grain painted wood frame with gold liner), unsigned, with old handwritten title remaining affixed to backing: "Dublin Royal Hospital". The early, nineteenth century work is in excellent condition and the frame alone is unusual and interesting. Note the tiny figures, horses, and wheeled cart. The obelisk appears to be the Duke of Wellington monument, the cornerstone of which was laid in 1817; the monument w...

A fine, highly finished and detailed watercolor painting of a seated lady on a patio, her large lute at her side. The setting is possibly a castle, as a tower in the background suggests. The artist signed at lower right and dated the work 1875. It measures 13 1/2" by 9 1/4" (16 1/2" by 12 1/4" in its attractive circa 1930's framing (note the old Jordan Marsh department store label from Boston on reverse--could have been purchased or framed there). Frame shows some wear on right hand side. T...

Three fine engravings of Mount Vernon, Monticello, and Independence Hall, nicely mounted and framed together vertically. The framed piece measures 16 1/2" by 11". These appear to be the same images that appear on US currency, and the very high quality of the printing (intaglio?) is similar. One wonders if these have been produced by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, either as printing proofs, or perhaps as official souvenirs to be sold in a gift shop setting. The detail is extremely cris...

Esther Anna Hunt (1875-1951) is known today in California art circles as a keen observer of the traditional culture as displayed in San Francisco's Chinatown. Her paintings and plaster bust models of young girls in traditional costume make regular appearances in auctions of California art. This work appears to have been created by one of Hunt's many early 20th century imitators. Unsigned, there are what appear to be initials "M.E.E." on the inside of the mat and on the inside of the backing. ...

An original 17th century etching, "God Appears to Moses in the Burning Bush", plate 30 from the well-known series of 52 published in 1615 in Rome by Giovanni Giacomo Rossi, the artist being ORAZIO BORGIANNI (1578-1616). These works are after the frescoes by Raphael on the second floor of the Apostolic Church in the Vatican. Borgianni, a Baroque painter who adopted the style of Caravaggio after settling in Rome in 1604, turned to etching in the final years of his short life. The work is signed in...

Stevenson is a well regarded artist in the state, with a long history in painting, drawing, the graphic arts, sculpture, and administration. Born in Georgia, he received some early art education in Panama, where his f...

Drypoint etching print "Chattes" (Cats) published in Paris in the year 1909 by Gustave Pellet, 8 3/4" by 12 1/4" inside the inner fillet, 17 3/4" by 21 3/4" as nicely framed, numbered in pencil 38/50 (and faint red cypher stamp) at lower right margin, and pencil signed by the artist at lower center right margin. There is a crease in each lower corner that I believe likely dates to the time of printing, and there are a few foxing spots, but the overall appearance is excellent. I have not examine...
